Hopefully we can get an alternative patch in the future with this sound mod compatible for those who want it. Would be cool.

Anders, can you confirm that the content you have released is 100% your own work, and doesn't use any copyrighted material? If you can confirm that I'll post it in our private section so our sound guys can look it over and critique/approve your sounds.

Re: PR 0.973 Soundmod test
Yeah. Ive recorded sound material from bf3, youtube. Took bits from PR default sounds. So the ones i should ask for permission to use recordings from are probably only dice. Ive asken them quite awhile ago, but no answer. :/ but since this is a mod for mod, do i have to be the owner for everything? I mean do you rlly think im forbidden? It would as ive said before be another thing if i wouldve made My ownPvt.LHeureux wrote:From the OP

Game and use sounds from other games.

Re: PR 0.973 Soundmod test
Using sounds from PR for a soundmod for PR would be fine, since they'd end up in PR anyways. However making any use of sounds from other games (be it directly from the game's files or recording them from youtube or wherever) with or without changes made to them by you is most likely not acceptable if you want to get them in PR. I strongly doubt that you will get permission from DICE (or any other company) to use sounds they made for their games, so if you're still using sounds based on sounds from other games you are probably better off redoing them or leaving them out.
That said; I'm no sound guy, but I like what you've done with them and it's great that you're still working on this.

Quick question. Why is having sounds from other games, etc, not okay? I mean, you're not selling your mod.

Re: PR 0.973 Soundmod test
Because its all copyrighted mate, using PR sounds to make sounds for PR is fine ofc since its staying in our sphere still, but I seriously doubt EA and DICE would be very happy to see work they put into one of their new games being backported to an older game of theirs...and thus I don't think the PR team can endorse this.
Sorry mate, but we've been very careful to maintain the integrity of our mod over the years and we aren't going to compromise that, we'd have been modifying the vbf2 models and maps directly if we felt that was allowed, but its not, its not our work and therefore we have a very well defined set of actions we can apply to DICE's work. I would think chopping up BF3 sounds to be used in a BF2 mod is pretty much a no-no without DICE's explicit consent.
I'd have to check with a red tag to ensure I've stated the correct position on the issue, however I am certain the reds would back that up.

Re: PR 0.973 Soundmod test
Yeah probably. But I'm not using the sounds as they ARE in games, I modify them with other sounds and make them fit into PR. But I see the point, the ground-material is still from a company that is selling their game.[R-DEV]Rudd wrote:Because its all copyrighted mate, using PR sounds to make sounds for PR is fine ofc since its staying in our sphere still, but I seriously doubt EA and DICE would be very happy to see work they put into one of their new games being backported to an older game of theirs...and thus I don't think the PR team can endorse this.

But I still think as beeing a mod to a mod to a game, me myself think it would be OK, even if I were the president of EA/Dice or whatever. But it's up to them I guess..
Sooo, what if I get a copy of sound libraries and dunno if its stolen or not? Record a sound from youtube or another video?
What if I buy a soundarchive? It's still not me who made/recorded the sounds.
So the ONLY thing for me (now talking about getting sounds into PR updates), is to go out and record every little damn sound for the game myself? Would be impossible, I think.

Re: PR 0.973 Soundmod test
The fact that they're selling it makes no difference, it would still be illegal if it were free.-=anders=- wrote:But I see the point, the ground-material is still from a company that is selling their game.
A fair point, but do remember the amount of effort that goes into any original work by the studios. Also lawyers won't be reasonable if it lines their pockets.
Copyright is automatic, and unless explicitly stated otherwise you can't use it. They again people are generally polite and sharing, so if you ask the publisher of the youtube videos they may well let you use the sounds.-=anders=- wrote:Sooo, what if I get a copy of sound libraries and dunno if its stolen or not? The organisation you buy the sound archive from will have the details in a license agreement. How much freedom they give you is their choice.-=anders=- wrote:What if I buy a soundarchive? It's still not me who made/recorded the sounds.
Annoyingly yes, though there are free sound archives around, and I do think a lot of people posting videos on youtube would be willing. Something to remember is that a lot of work from a lot of people in the organisations go in to any assets they make.-=anders=- wrote:So the ONLY thing for me (now talking about getting sounds into PR updates), is to go out and record every little damn sound for the game myself? Here's a link which has some of the details about the creation of sounds for BF3 at dice.
DICE
If you look at the video on the pkm on it you can see how much effort and man power goes into just one set of weapon sounds for the game.

I have recorded shootsounds myself at different distances... Although ONLY with one stereo mic. So i know how things could be better, but the REAL work, goes into the soundediting afterwards. There's no gunshot irl that can be recorded and then just get it to play, it sounds disgusting.

Re: PR 0.973 Soundmod test
I think it's a bit stupid to ask a youtuber to use the sound recorded in his shooting video. The sound is not owned by him, I mean, it's like saying I couldn't use the same tree that was in his video for a 3D Model without asking him.

Using youtube ruins the quality of the sound either ways. All the highs/lows bass, leaves cracks and so on.

You can, if the PR devs accept the mod. Otherwise you can't play online with those sounds.

Ive updated alot of things, but it seems meaningless now, when it cant be allowed to be used as a mod to play free on all servers.
Ill show you what Ive done more next week.
