Ivy Bridge not till Q2 2012

Post by Pedz »

Intel Schedules Core i 3000 "Ivy Bridge" Desktop Processors Launch to Q2 2012 - X-bit labs

Shows a leaked roadmap for Intel over the next year, also some specs on the new chips. Even though clock speeds, nor cores have increased, they can still be upto 20% faster in applications due to other optimisations.(A common thing people miss when looking at processors, as it is no longer as simple as it was before, when it was just a clock speed race).

Just thought I'd let you all know, as I know a few of you are awaiting these chips to build their new systems :)

Intel Reveals Official Next-Gen "Ivy Bridge" Chip Performance Numbers to Partners - X-bit labs

ZOMG its gets 0.25 more score in EXCEL OMG THE SPEED, my mind cannot comprehend it
its also apparently faster in paint

seriously if you have the money might as well buy a sandy bridge, unless you REALLY want that integrated GPU
There is only one unforgivable lie That is the lie that says, This is the end, you are the conqueror, you have achieved it and now all that remains is to build walls higher and shelter behind them. Now, the lie says, the world is safe.? The Great Khan.

40k is deep like that.

You have to realise paint, word and excel don't use much processing power... So you won't see much improvement there. The main tasks that will show speed improvement will be video encoding (unless of course you've moved to GPU encoding, which is much faster) and also these processors use less power than the sandy bridge equivelent, so can save money in the long run :)

Ivy Bridge will use way less power and be far cooler. Now I don't have to upgrade my 750w PSU in order to OC the CPU to 5GHz (on air) and SLI with another GTX 570 (also OC'd)!

The best part is that it will only be slightly more expensive than SB which was already really cheap.

I made a good choice when I skipped SB and held on to my old i7 930, this will be a huge boost for my computer.
Parts I'm getting:
i7 3700k
ATX Motherboard (probably ASUS)
4x4GB G.Skill DDR3 1600MHz (happy about native 1600MHz support, pissed about no 4 ch like SB-E has)
Nvidia GTX 570 (probably ASUS DCII, SLI with my current 570)
2x Vertex 3 120GB (RAID0, full system since I don't use more than 240GB)

I'll pop my CM Hyper 212+ on the CPU (or if I have extra money to waste, Corsair H80/H100) and set it at 5GHz.

Can't wait!!! *Timewarp to April*

Various awesomeness for IB chipsets:
-Native USB 3.0 support
-Better Sata III support
-Native PCI-E 3.0 support (backwards compatible)
-North Bridge is integrated in CPU
