it looks unlikely that we will be releasing an "snow map pack" this year as it would conflict with our other map pack.

However the better idea would most likely for some servers to run a few "snow map events" over the xmas period getting people to download the maps and install them in advance, and have everyone turning up at the same time to play the maps (possibly even have players singing up for it etc, up to you guys thou if you want to go down that route).

Its really down to the server admins/communities to organise this thou and while the map pack will give you an error when installing saying it wasn't meant for v0.973, it still works just as it did in v0.95.

Without a doubt, Barentz Invasion is one of the best maps in PR. It beats out several of the current PR standards, including Yamalia, Kashan, Iron Ridge, and a few others. I would love to see that map added to PR as a regular map. I truly wish that I had the modding skills to do what needs to be done to bring that map up to where the devs want it. One of my favorite PR memories ever is ambushing a full chopper load of Brits on the cargo ship with my M60 as they were coming in for a landing on top of the superstructure. Good times. :D

My clan still uses Barentz Invasion from time to time for event play, and it does indeed work with .973, and it is still just as much fun as ever, polished or not. It would truly be a shame for this great map to fall by the wayside.

On a side note, if the snow textures/sounds/materials are created and Project Normandy takes off, could we be in for some intense Ardennes forest action?

Barents Invasion does not beat out any of the ones you just mentioned...

Speaking of that, can you guys (Devs and management) get those files back in DL section maybe just for a short period? I think I have client files on my backup drive but I don't think I got server ones. I can make it server compatible but I'm not quite sure.

It's sad but understandable. The new maps do look promising though!

jeej old bump. I believe that the winter mappack deserves it's yearly attention again. And although a snow material should be made for it I have no clue how :) I'm more thinking of removing the lagging issues of barentz offensive and maybe fix the GPO's if they need.

Can anyone remember any issues with balance, assets, bleeding, bugged layouts?

And from the devs, is it ok if I do these changes and release a pw event for it? Who made these maps?

As we've said a hundred times before, we won't be releasing the winter maps this year.

Updating them for a passworded event is perfectly fine, but they won't be an official release. Again, we (the PR team) are extremely busy trying to get v1.0 finished and we're trying to limit side-projects and other distractions.

Thanks for understanding :)

oh, sorry if you understood it in a way that I was hoping you guys would update them. That was in no way my idea :D I was mostly asking for known issues that I can simply fix. But not the snow material, as I have no clue how to do such things :)

But I do have to ask something, is it ok if I attempt to make a winter version of an existing normal PR map and put it in the pw-event? I just want to see if I am capable of doing so :)
