[0973] Swedish translation

Post by cryst113 »

Hey..

I'm not sure where to post this since it's not really a bug, but I couldn't find any forum that really fits the topic.
Hope I don't sound like a whiner now, but i'm just wondering..

What i'm talking about is the translation of the IDF faction on Beirut, it says "jude" (jew). Shouldn't it say IDF?
For example when fighting Hamas you don't put in "muslim" as faction, right?
As far as I know it's not "jew" in the english translation of the game.

And besides, the people of Israel isn't called jews (if that's for some reason what they tried to point out) it's Israelis/Israelites.

You get the swedish text when installing BF2 in swedish right?

But yeah, shouldn't be jew. Should either be IDF or Israel.

'Ryss' --> Russian seems out of place for me too. I would have 'Ryssland'=Russia.

Makes no sense. Why would you use the denomination of most people living in a country to represent it, instead of just using the actual country name.

Its not Christians vs. Muslims on Muttrah isn?t it? Should be fixed.

Spook, yes exactly and the weird thing is that this have been here for a while. I was thinking about doing a thread about this in the previous version of the game but didn't end up doing it. But i hope PR-Devs look into this and whoever translated the mod.

Hmm, I've had a look in the Swedish localization files and overall the Swedish translation is well made, using lots of Swedish military brevity and acronyms. but there are a few questionable translations, the US army has been translated into "j'a'nkare" ("yanks") and "Next time try following my orders!" has somehow been translated into "Nej nej NEJ, TR'A'HATTAR!" ("No no NO, WOODHATS!")

Hi, I made the translation.

Concerning "Jude" it's really the same thing as Israel/it. Compare to wikipedia:
"Efter att Israels rike gick under kom begreppet israeliter att anv?ndas om dem som tillh?rde Juda och blev d?rmed synonymt med judar, se vidare denna artikel. Det antas att Jesus valde att ha tolv l?rjungar just f?r att de skulle symbolisera Israels tolv stammar."
http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeliter

But "Jude" is now changed to "Israel" due to poular request.

I also updated the new german strings. I've also seen there are a new prhelp I'll handle when I have time. Feel free to report any error you can find. The untranslated strings are new and you dont need to report them I'll find them.

The files can be found here:

Thank you.

"Amerikan" is too long to fit. Isn't "J'a'nkare" appropriate? As I remember the names of the team didn't fit in all occasions so I choose to use nationalities instead for constituency.

"Ryssland" doesn't fit. It would be the obvious translation if it would, wouldn't it?

Up to and including 7 letter for team names in the spawn screen.

Although 'Israelites' originally referred to Jews, Israel is today a nation which means you can come from Israel and be an Israeli without being Jewish and vice versa you can be Jewish without being Israeli. So calling them "Jews" doesn't work.
Just call them IDF.
Same with the "yanks" just call them "US Army", its what some of the other translators have done.

I'm fairly sure there's 9 letters in "insurgent" which is used in the English version on the spawn screen, so surely "Ryssland" should fit with its 8 letters?

Ok? It was so long ago I made the translation I don't really remember exact how many letters you can fit. I just remember that some didn't so I shortened them. W8 I'll check

EDIT:
Yes, "RYSSLAND" fits, so maybe the HUD is changed or something. Will change it to nations...
