Are you guys serious? Ever seen a tank or been even like 200-300 meters close to it while it was moving maneuvering?



Literally ground is shaking around it in a good radius, hell I think even air is shivering around it. Makes your guts go crazy and adrenaline jumps :D

Ear protection? Yeah crew has those but its only not to go deaf from the noise. They cant really use radio that good while moving or shooting.

Ever crewed an armored vehicle personally? I served in a mechanized infantry unit for four years. We used M2 series Bradleys, including the M2, M2A1, M2A2, and M2A2ODS variants. I personally spent time in my unit as a Bradley driver. Every single variant, as well as every other armored vehicle that I encountered in the U.S. arsenal had plugs for this kickass helmet called the CVC helmet. CVC stands for Combat Vehicle Crewmember's helmet. Basically, it is a helmet with big *** headphones built in that drastically reduce noise, while providing amplified volume for communications inside the vehicle.

Of particular note, I will quote from the linked source:
SOUND-ATTENUATING EARCUPS: The rotatable earcups are designed for a secure fit and optimum sound attenuation. The earcups can be adjusted vertically via the adjustment straps on the CVC liner. A tension spring adjusts pressure of the earcups to the crewmember's head. A raised ring on each padded, non-hardening, polyurethane earseal further enhances the fit and sound attenuation with minimal pressure to the head.

OPTIONAL ACTIVE HEARING PROTECTION (AHP): An optional Active Hearing Protection (AHP) talk through system is available for use with the DH-132S/DH-132AS. This battery-operated system allows the crewmember to have noise attenuation plus the ability to hear conversations clearly; it also helps protect the crewmember's hearing by suppressing noise levels above 85 decibels. The AHP system consists of an outside communications module on the left earcup (as worn) and a rotary switch on the right earcup. Alternatively, the AHP feature is available from Gentex in a self sustained plug-in module which is worn on the body with a clothing clip.

ACTIVE NOISE REDUCTION (ANR): ANR is available as an option for increased attenuation at the lower frequencies 31.5 through 1000 hertz.

ELECTRET MICROPHONE: The MK-1697/G headset-microphone can be modified by installing a transformer and diode capacitor network in the left earcup to permit the use of a high performance electret microphone with superior noise canceling characteristics and improved EMI performance.
In conclusion, I see no realism argument against this idea. The statement about lowered game audio settings affecting survivability in infantry play is without a doubt correct, however.

Well Stoick not all vehicles are the same and not all crewmans got these "fancy" gadgets. I appreciate the sharing but you cannot really compare Bradleys 500hp engines and structure and an T90s 1250hp engines right? Ive never been in a tank but I was quite close to them on a training field and I can say those things are frightening loud and scary.
While ingame volume can be pretty much loud from effect it is really upto you to set it up in a right way to make it comfortable. Its not the game thats faulty its people dont know how to operate it right.

Don't most APC's or Trans heli's have earphone intercom systems so that the passengers can communicate with the crew? As a SL i'd like some simulation of that, as mentioned it's hard to hear the pilot or driver sometimes, depending on the right seat.

The answer is that they should always have the sound for passengers in the vehicle muffled because the people who claim that because tanks are loud the people inside should be deaf are uninformed about the existence of intercom systems and sound deadening headphones.

it just has to do with rdev changing volume levels for entire inside of vehicle, out side can remain the same but its stupid to have to lower volume in game all the time when in real life you can twist your nose to lower what your ears hear.

With all due respect, Massive, every vehicle I encountered while in the Army, up to and including the M1 Abrams had the plugs for the CVC helmet. It wasn't just the Bradleys. Also, while on joint training exercises, every crewman I encountered from the British, Austrailian, French, and Egyptian armed forces had similar headgear. It wasn't just U.S. forces. Constantly having to escape out of game to the main menu and change sound levels every time you enter and exit a vehicle makes no sense to me. This isn't a matter of setting up game levels properly one time and leaving them alone.
