Unique FOBs For Each Faction
Would it be possible to drape a flag over the sandbags of a FOB to show what faction it belongs to, or maybe have some rifles leaning up against the radio; something like that.
EG: A Chinese FOB would have a Chinese flag sitting on the sandbags and a couple of QBZ-95s leaning on it.
I think this would be a nice improvement over the current, nondescript FOBs and would make them easier to identify.

Its possible yes, would take a bit of work, wouldn't recommend having rifles or any other weapons there as players might think and/or expect them to be pickup kits, but we could have a flag, possibly a small flag poll even with them so you can identify them from a distance.
The question is, do you, the players, think it is worth it?

I think that such a minor change won't really do anything to gameplay per say. But I do like the idea. It would be nice to know who's FOB it is and to be honest I think it would just look cooler

Obviously you can, but I felt this would have nice presentation value and would be useful to new players and those who blunder into a mysterious FOB deep in jungles of Tad Sae and feel they need to knife it immediately, without looking at their map, lest any enemies appear out of nowhere on top of it to shoot the intruder.

I've never seen someone stupid enough to knife their own firebase before.
Regardless, this is an unrealistic change, especially for AAS. When conventional forces are establishing operating points they don't place flags, especially if its a combat outpost like in PR. If anything, camouflage and concealment are two of the most critical attributes. A flagpost defeats that. And in real life, you're most definitely going to know if the establishment your standing in is friendly or enemy.
Just more work for the developers which they don't need.

I think it would be nice too, but only cosmetic. It will not change anything gameplay wise. If you guys can spare some time to change the model it would be great, if not its fine again as it is.
And on top as dtacs said flag pole will not do - maybe small flag on radio or something.

Making the camo net cover the whole thing would be a nice improvement, espectially for the larger maps where the dirt mound shows you exactly where it is.

I'd only support this if done as a community project, rather than using any dev time on it.
Aesthetic things are fine, but there are a buttload of things that are far more important imo [gameplay, maps, factions etc].

It is not necessary, but if you have spare time, flag lying at radio or somewhere nearby will be good.

Re: Unique FOBs For Each Faction
I find myself in an unfamiliar position here; I agree with Dtacs.
First, the Dev's have enough work on their plates without this project. Secondly, concealment is priority here, not draping a brightly colored flag on a tactical fire base. Thirdly, if you run in and knife your own FOB, you deserve the wrath of your team for being too lazy to check your map first. Besides, a flag pole will just make the FOB that much more difficult to conceal. With concealment being the only reasonably effective FOB defense in game currently, I find that to be a big problem.
The FOB's are fine as is, cosmetically speaking. There are other, far more important things for the Dev's to work on without this. Thank you for taking the time to make the suggestion, but I vote a very strong No to this.

yeah i vote each community faction make their own Fob design fit to specific dimensions and themes. of course they should have a flag but i agree with ... it would NOT be worth the time if the Devs were the ones who had to create them it would be too much time out of working on the bigger picture.

What Psyrus means is this to be done by the community, not each individual community faction.Redamare wrote:yeah i vote each community faction make their own Fob design fit to specific dimensions and themes. of course they should have a flag but i agree with ... it would NOT be worth the time if the Devs were the ones who had to create them it would be too much time out of working on the bigger picture.
The problem with this thou is its something that can't really be done by the community and would need to be done in-house since it basically means modifying the firebase model slightly then coding, in fact the coding part would really be the largest part to this if it was just to add a mini-flag poll to the model to put a flag on.

Re: Unique FOBs For Each Faction
Not worth it.
With that said, how about something a little easier?
What if they each had their own radio 'noise'?
Brits - Benny Hill or Monty Python theme
Russians - Trololo auto tune
US - America, Fuck Yeah! or American Idol theme
You get the idea.

Ahem. PRT match, agemman driving round putting up FOBs, me sneaking round hunting for enemy fobs. Continue for about an hour.... Mistakes were madedtacs wrote:I've never seen someone stupid enough to knife their own firebase before.
OT - I agree a nice touch but probably not #1 priority.
Cheers, Murkey.

Re: Unique FOBs For Each Faction
TBH that's more work than adding a flag poll and a flag as you still need the coding side done, and audio work which we don't really have any active audio guys, + no clear indication as to which radio sound is for what faction + even more gamey than a flag.[R-DEV]ballard_44 wrote:Not worth it.
