is voip going to be disabled for mumble 1.0

Post by xambone »

I played in PRTA and mumble 1.0 is required because the server disabled VOip. I was wondering If i insist our clan start using the new mumble because voip WILL be disabled server side for "Reality" reasons in the next PR BF2 Patch? Or if it will always only be a server option to disable voip?

I hope it will be forced mod-wide

Yes, you should definitely do that. Not because VOIP will be disabled, but because Mumble is something everyone should learn to use.

Well we only play Muttrah and must members only play in our server 2 hours a day thats it. SO if they aren't going to use it elsewhere why should i push them into something that is buggy currently and after .5 was such a miss i dont blame them.

I dont think voip will be disabled in mod completely. Voip is admin side option - you can disable it in serversettings.con file of your server setup. I disabled voip on our servers but that proved to be bad option since new players that do not know about it, are having problems, and on the other side there are some people who still have problems with linking and switching to proper channels, so I decided to turn it back on.
But using mumble is way much better for teamwork, therefore I forced my people to join it and use it actively. And it will be part of PR mod - implemented in mod, so for future reasons, you should be using it more.

I think disable voip is good for PR, because mumble is replacing it. LOL

PS: Mumble makes us easy communicate especially inter-squad. Alway pissed off by Jet Crasher.

I think once the non beta version is released and we can correct issues like; Not linking; players not being moved into channels. That we can ask everyone to support it.

I have not visited SAGA forums lately; how is 1.0 mumble beta in China?

I imagine that it would be a lot better if server forced mumble so everyone can yell at jet crashers.
-----------------------------------------------
Also, new mumble is so easy a caveman could do it(and he probably already did...).

Anyone whining about mumble not working/too complicated should get a new pc.

No excuses.

You are telling the truth indeed, I had even dream of everyone on mumble, but.....
We are applying official mumble channel, cause we dont have MUMBLE1.0 server client.
Everything works well with mumble except the voice.(everybody sounds like transformer, probably server problem.)

Anyway mumble is great!
However we cant change the mind of some chinese ppl, unwilling to communicate.
Hoping mumble be a must in the future.

some people still have issues with mumble working properly due to glitches, compatability, etc.

Voip is a suitable back up comms method that should still be available.

Its probably up to the servers if they wish to disable VOIP or not, but I would recommend keeping it as a backup use and to help new players get into PR which will be really left out as they probably won't have any clue about or know how to use mumble.

Everybody should be on mumble at all times but I have to admit that i prefer VOIPs lower sound quality instead of force talk on mumble since the lower audio-quality of VOIP seems more authentic to me.

If I was able to use a 2 way radio soundfilter for squad wide coms I would for sure.

As far as SQ force center on mumble I far prefer VOIP.

As a SL I have a hard time figuring out whos talking when my SM's us mumble SQ force center. It sounds too much like a SL is trying to get a hold of me.

I played on sisu yesterday, quite annoying to have to check which of my SMs who have mumble, and type out, and then kick those who dont. Would be lovely just to ask if the have mumble and then tell them with ingame voip. Though when i got my 10 man squad set up all with mumble it worked quite good, though i think local speak should get an increase in range by a bit so it could be used a little more.

Agreed, when I took over from you when you went afk a few times having people in your squad using force centre mumble for squad comms is frustrating. I kept going on the SL channel asking which squad just said that, just to get a unanimous reply of 'not me'.

if it is at all possible to have a seperate voice filter on the squad force centre to distinguish it from other comms or like ARMA's ACRE where you can have different channels coming into different ears then I'm partially against having VoIP turned off completely.

Totally agree on this one also.. I really prefer squadmembers talking to me on VOIP if out of local speech reach...

Whats force center? Is it squad radio? Numpad 0? Use overlay - customize it to show only talking. Works fine for me.

The only problem I have with Mumble is that most people never use the same PR in game username with their mumble username. Can someone tell me why? This is extremely frustrating when I try to match someone's voice to the tags on the soldiers in the battlefield.

Mumble is interesting indeed, if it ever gets fully integrated it'd be a huge success compared to the current voip system in most facets. But I still like to use my ingame most days, when I have a headset that I can hear from both sides and working mic that is.

This could be overcome by simply asking your squadmates to adress you as SL every time they use mumble SQ force center.
