mouse DPI?

Hello, so i'm on vacation right now in a place where things are cheap and tax free! i came across a store selling specifically gaming hardware and noted that they had a 2400dpi mouse for just under 20 bucks canadian.

this lead me to wonder, what is the importance of having a higher dpi mouse relative to gaming? Shooters in particular since PR is pretty much all i play if anything. Would it be worth (a little bit of) my hard earned cash to buy a mouse with a higher dpi?

that said I bought it anyways as it fit my hands much better than my current cheap Dynex mouse, and has both side buttons by the thumb where they are comfortable to use unlike my Dynex which is on either side.

Higher DPI gives more accuracy and speed. Raising speed with software decreases accuracy, so it's good to have a high DPI mouse and then lower the speed in the game to whatever is comfortable for you. I have a G500 which allows me to set the DPI for each of the modes through the driver, so I set them all fairly high and then I lower the overall speed and set acceleration to 0 for the best accuracy.

ah, so is it like i can make smaller movements? ie. I can make smaller adjustments with a higher dpi mouse. for example i usually have trouble hitting targets at long range in PR because my crossheir jumps either on one side of their body or the other and most times i cant seem to adjust so that i am on him. with a higher dpi i would be able to make that one pixel shift?

Precisely. The G500 as mentioned before (I have one also) has two physical buttons that allow you to quickly change the speed of the cursor on screen any time you want. You can even choose the DPI you want for five different speed settings. It can even be customized per program.

ah, i see. the one i bought just earlier allows me with jump between 600, 1200, 1800, and 2400 dpi on a button just below the scroll wheel.

2400 should be plenty enough for casual gaming right?

does anyone have any opinions on the Enzatec X-LUCA E-Blue?

Yes 2400 DPI should be plenty good enough, anything higher and its becomes too sensitive(maybe 3200 is acceptible). I have a 6400dpi mouse, and well, if I play loud music, the bass can make the mouse jump all over the screen... But then I got it for other reasons than the sensors . Not heard of that mouse, but best to check for any reviews you can find on it

now that i've gotten some use out of it i will say the X-Luca by Ezatec is an excellent mouse for the price. I now have my mouse sensitivity in game set to 2 at 1800 dpi on the mouse for the usual turn speed allowing me to drop to 800dpi for those pixel by pixel long distance firing adjustments. i would definitely recommend this mouse to anyone looking for better precision and smoother movement in a shooter.

I know what you mean. I had a 6400dpi mouse and wind blowing from the AC would make the cursor seizure around on the screen. I resorted back to using my 3500dpi mouse (mainly for other reasons, such as it was stolen along with my $1600 ASUS laptop last night while I am here in Portugal).
