Also, the ACM emagazine is pretty interesting read. I've used quite a bit of the other software available in my Masters program... thought PR players would like to see this if building acustom PC, save US$60 to $100 on the OS, and have plenty of licenses to build virtual machines.

ACM no longer offers access to MSDNAA
IEEE student membership still offers access if your Uni is a member of the IEEE or MSDNAA group.
