Binoculars?

Post by ShockUnitBlack »

Was just wondering about something: the ArmA2 team has removed binoculars and GTLDs from every class except for SL, Crewman, and Sniper. Will a similar change be made to PR:BF2 in the next patch?

I can't say I've kept tabs on the reasoning behind why the ARMA2 team have done this but last thing I heard in regards to why we have done what we have done in BF2 quite a few years ago on the issue was its pretty realistic for most members of a squad to be issues with binoculars and thous who aren't normally buy there own as its something you don't really want to go into battle without.

YAAY Q AND A ^_^ ... i have thought about how BF2 PR would be with out Binocs it Could work well if done correctly only SL marksmen snipers and HAT kits should have binocs due to their nature. i i feel that normal INF would be fine with out them and would promote an even higher chain of command in squads. with the squad leader 100% leading the squad.. even though it is pretty much standard now and is doing just fine. it would be worth some sort of test to see how we all would react :)

Well the scopes that are on most of the rifles in PR, for more conventional forces do just as good as binoculars.

God, I can't imagine PR without binocs. I really feel like they are an essential part of teamplay in general.

I'm agreeing with that. It's pretty difficult to identify targets through a scope especially. Much easier with binoculars.

If bino's were withdrawn from rifleman class that would be fine if the SL is the type to lead from the rear and mark targets but many SL's lead from the front with SM's following. How many times is the medic using his binos to correct SAW or HMG fire?

Disagree. What's the reason of doing that? Why riflemen can't correct HMG/AT fire as SL/Medic anyone else?

It would be better to leave everything as it is and not removing binoculars from any class is BF2PR IMO.

At least in my opinion, binocs ingame sort of compensate for the fact that it's much harder to see objects on a small screen with limited pixels than it is IRL. For example, a guy 300m away in PR is much harder to see than someone who's 300m away IRL. In ArmA you can zoom without any scope or binoc, and AFAIK that's for the same reason.

Edit; Well that was derp. As soon as I pressed submit the forum told me I couldn't post so soon after another message. So I refresh the thread, and there's not sign of my post. Try again, same thing. Then I get a database error, and now a quad-post..

Binoculars were the reasons why I got into PR. I was looking for a mod that gave infantry binoculars when I stumbled upon PR.

I would hate to see them go!

That might be true, but IRL camo actually works while in PR, especially at longer distances and ridges, players tend to stick out just like a glowing christmas tree at night. Personally I wouldn't mind see those binocs removed.

Could even improve firefights in certain situations.

And yet at the same time it's much easier to people in PR due to the fact camouflage doesn't really work.

If you would compare it to reality, regular infantry does not carry binos. Ported to PR SL should have one and sniper. Others follow SL and as a result more teamwork. Spotting is not an issue as not much players are doing it anyways or have hard time to judge which grid location on map would target be, or what distance or direction it is.

It was said before: Binoculars are sth. very important in PR!

Sometimes you are an Insurgent with no scopes, sometimes you wanna check to the edge of the view distance to check if the way you want to go is clear...you need binos for that!

As a SL I don't always have time to correct my AR fire, cause there is other stuff for me to do...so I assign a SM that is free...he needs binos for that!

So please, do NOT remove the binos! It will unnecessarily make the SL job even more "babysitting" and complicated...

In Project Normandy it makes the battles all the more extreme. Don't know how it plays out in modern combat, but I can tell you squad leaders don't have to babysit, they just become more important.

But in PN there's no CAS jets, Helis, big assets like BMP-3, big MBTs, etc. I think PR needs to keep the binos, also soldiers just buy their own like it was mentioned earlier.
