CTD on Vadso and Black Gold

Post by fredo456 »

Hi! Each time so far I tried to play on Black Gold, a the very end of the map loading a BF2 memory error apears and crashes the game I haven't tried yet to lower the textures settings (I'm on high). On vadso the game crashes only with the textures on "high" but the graphs are getting kinda awful with textures on "medium" so Im not enjoying that much playing on this great map :-( . So is there any way to fix that problem? To play with textures on high on vadso and to simply play on black gold? I have 4 gb's of RAM, a GT-240 graphic card with a AMD dual core 3.0 ghz used on XP 32bits.

I allready tried to allow my computer to use 3 gb's of RAM instead of two (with the notepad thing) but my computer didn't "like" It, the windows were moving VERY slowly and I had the feeling that I had no graphic card anymore. PR is running withouy problems on any other maps, with no lags or bugs. So can anyone help me?

Hello fredo,
after allowing PR to use more than 2GB (using the notepad thing) your PC started to behave poorly.
This *MIGHT BE because you have too many programs running in the background using up too much of your RAM.
This is the easiest problem to check so let's check that first.

Open Program Manager.
Bottom left should tell you how many programs are running.
This should not be more than 60 or so.
The next step is to close down any programs you can before you start PR.
Close down anything unneeded,

Now do the "More than 2GB RAM for PR" thing again using Notepad,
reboot
and see if that fixes it.

IF you want to get even more background programs closed, set a restore point, back up your registry, then read these two guides:

Services Guide for Windows XP
Black Viper’s Windows XP x86 (32-bit) Service Pack 3 Service Configurations | Black Viper's Website | www.blackviper.com

So I managed to run my computer with only 30 background tasks, but there is a Big bunch of "svchost" (including one which uses a lot of RAM) of some tasks as "cidaemon" or "daemonu" never stops to pop up after being stopped. I don't know if I can do much more...

do NOT stop the svchost programs.
cidaemon is supposed to be the Windows File indexing program.
however, sometimes it get stuck and uses too much CPU.
also, many times viruses are named cidaemon to hide themselves.

you can turn off cidaemon by these procedures:
Windows XP may run slowly and you may see multiple symptoms in Windows Task Manager
------------------------------------------------

daemonu is part of NVidia update manager.
you can turn it off.
OPen Nvidia Manager, in the settings menu, deselect the 'automatic updates' option. apply settings.
when you reboot daemonu will be stopped.

So I switched back to 3GB and everything is working fine now, Black Gold, vadso and even Burning Sands (lol) are working perfectly with all settings on "high", so thanks you for everything! :)
