Should i join a MilSim clan?

Post by VerdwaaldOdyssey »

Hey guys I'm looking for a good clan to join but I'm stuck in deciding if i should join a MilSim clan or a more casual clan. I've seen MilSim clan websites and it seems like fun to me, but I'd like your opinions especially sense there doesn't seem to be any threads debating weather or not you should join a MilSim.

Anyway i personally like emphasis on tactics and teamwork (I used to lead a clan just for that actually) and having constant challenging to learn new vehicles, kits, squad roles, different forms of leadership, ect ect ect, but i can't deal with mandatory training/meeting days because i can only play PR on the weekends and the occasional Wednesday night.

There are some good non-milsim clans that still put a strong emphasis on Tactics and Teamwork.

Can't say I have recommendations because I don't. But from what I see, from hardcore milsim clans, they seem like they have mandatory training nights.

Check out the 3rd Armoured Cavalry, not a mil-sim clan but we do have an emphasis on teamwork.

It all depends on what your looking for in a unit or clan. Milsim units differ. Ours does have days for training but not all are mandatory we understand certain aspects. Most of us have families to take care of, school and work. We train on Tuesdays, Thursday, and Saturdays. Tuesday's and Thursdays are not mandatory because we try to account for the Europeans we have so those days are scheduled early but for Saturdays everyone trains that's mandatory for us. That starts at 2 pm Eastern time and only lasts for 1 hour and 30 mins tops. Then the rest of the day we go on the servers and play as a unit. So it all depends on what your looking for. I believe he was looking for discussion not a suggestion.

'Capt. J.Smith[26MEU wrote:;1725396']So it all depends on what your looking for.

What Smith said. We can't make the choice for you we can only steer you towards the direction you're hopefully looking at. MilSim clans put a lot of emphasis on discipline, organization, cohesion, solid communications and activity. So if you're looking for something long term with goals and places you can advance, that might be where you want to go.

If your looking to just get on and play sometimes when your in the mood. Casual clan, often times they get on every now and then don't have a lot of strict rules, just mess around. However they tend to lack the discipline, organization and intensity that a MilSim might have, the structure is likely different, they may or may not be organized. They might do training or none at all, for all ya know in a casual one it could be hey lets jump out of the chopper and run to point A, B and then C4 C.

Do you want coordination with drilling that will get you to a higher level or just lets shoot at people and hope we don't die.

I would defiantly go with a Milisim clan if your looking for structure and a way to advance. And if you can only be on the the weekends I am sure that would be fine, you just have to make sure you are actually on when you say you can be, being busy doesn't mean you cant be in one.

You could play in a structure (box) simulating RL tactics that do not necessarily work effectively, although it may be fun to some less structured "casual" clans as you called it offer different (better) things then ranks, salutes, and mandatory meetings.

or Option C, variable.

Personally i'm not for MilSim clans or casual, I like my own little mix nor do I like saluting when i'm here ot play a game, meetings I agree with if there is a purpose.

It's also about the clan itself, not all of them are alike, not all of them are successful or even efficient either be that they are casual, MilSim, hardcore, etc.

When your asking is it worth it what you need to ask yourself is what are YOU looking for and where do you want to go in the future?

Everyone has their taste, casual clans are a different taste which I haven't had for dinner in the few days. Might have some for breakfast tommorow.

I'd suggest get the names of a few different clans (milsim and non-milsim) stalk them out ingame and just play in their squads (if you can). See if you like the people and the way they play etc.
That way you can pick the clan you'd like to play with the best and save a lot of hassle joining and leaving etc.

In my opinion milsim clans have always seemed a bit dull. You copy real life military tactics into a game, which means you learn how to be a great soldier in real life, but your PR-skills won't get any better. If you're looking for a clan that can help you be a great soldier in real life, join a milsim clan. If not, join a "real" PR clan.

It seems like you think that every "real" PR clan knows nothing about teamwork, and all they do is derp around trying to get kills without being killed, while having strict rules and policies. You're completely wrong. There are tonnes of clans that are great PR players, with great teamwork and communication, without copying real life military tactics.

The best PR clans atm are not milsim clans(to my knowledge).

So you have to think if you WANT a simulation or you dont. Milsim or not dsn't have to do with how good a clan is. You have to play with the people and make friends. Don't join a clan just to join a clan. It's not worth it if you dont fit in to their style or mentality.

I was referring to the more laxed casual clans.

I've met very few MilSim clans that seemed actually successful, however i've also met very few of the "casual" clans that were successful compared to the more hardcore ones

SGT.Ice where would you put Tiger Platoon in your equation? ;)

Milsim, realism unit, casual clan, clan? Succesfull/unsuccesfull?
This will be interesting. :D

Honestly though, he is right. Most of the time you play more in a more loose clan, even with teamwork. MilSim often required a lot of preparation and out of game duties/activities.

In OD-S the only things we do besides playing games is ranting and making forum signatures.
