[Solved] "There is a problem with your connection"

Post by ZonexNL »

Hello fellow PR community members,

I've been experiencing odd ingame connection issues lately. I only play on the *NwA* server if I play PR so I can't tell wether this is server specific or not, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. I've lately been getting random timeouts on the server. When I play for like 10-30 minutes a white line appears in the center of my screen saying "There is a problem with your connection" and after seeing that for 10 seconds and being unable to move, I drop out to the main menu. I thought it had something to do with the ingame VOIP so I disabled it (since some routers see VOIP as a DDOS attack as they give priority to certain stuff) but the crashes just went on and on. Sometimes I'm able to play like a few hours and sometimes I can't play more than 15 minutes, the crashes are very random.

Any ideas?

Your first thought is correct,
try to log in to your router and disable any internal firewall.

Wired or wireless from your PC?
Does this affect any other online gaming?
If not...
Does this affect vanilla BF2 play? <-- This is important, try to jump on a vBF2 server and see if you get same problem.

What make and model of router?

have you checked your firewall/antivirus/malewarebytes etc and disable or set to game mode?

When viewing online streaming large filesize video do you get freezes, stutters or random disconnections that force you to rebuffer the entire video?

PC to my router is wired, and it does not affect any other online gaming. I used to have NAT negociation errors at some specific games (xbox live aswell) but that's solved. And no, it does not affect any vanilla BF2 play.

I've got a Sitecom 300N XR wireless router (but I use a wire to connect to the router). I've checked my PC's firewall aswell and it's not blocking anything related to BF2/PR whatsoever. Viewing online streaming isn't a problem either.

I'll disable the router's internal firewall, see if that works.

EDIT: I've also got the option of assigning a virtual DMZ host by adding an IP adress. Would it work if I'd input *NwA*'s server IP and basically 'exclude' them from the firewall, or would I have to disable the whole firewall if it's the firewall causing this whole issue?

Do not use the DMZ feature, it's not what it's intended for, and will leave your PC very vulnerable.

Busy weekend for me, I'll try to help you out on Monday.

I have disabled the internal Firewall of my router and I haven't been experiencing any problems so far. However I did timeout once today after I tried to enable the ingame VOIP again.

No, it's not really solved, I've just covered the problems by using a (temporary) alternative, but no, it's not what I call solved.

Is there any way to give priority to VOIP and/or gaming so my router wont recognize the ingame VOIP as a DDOS attack?
