Low Frames Per Second

Post by Pruskis »

So once again I am trying to figure out why my rig can't handle PR?

First of all, lets start with hardware:

My ex-rig, Q6600, Asus P5K, 5GB of RAM, XFX 9800GTX+. Low fps even playing on low setting at 1920x1080. I tried playing with software a little, even tried these 'pc boosters' which did nothing. After some time motherboard died so I was forced to switch a bit, actually kinda downgrade to 5050e, M3A76-CM, 3GB of RAM, Albatron 9800GTX+, got nearly same results. Using my old rig I had a idea that it's because my Asus P5K, but even using AMD rig and trying 2x 250GB hard drives on RAID0 - that haven't improved my PR gaming performance. Using AMD I even tried to OC both XFX and Albatron graphic cards - nothing, It's odd to see that MSI Afterburner keep showing that GPU load doesn't go any further than 10% with any of these cards. Sometimes, it seems that playing with medium settings you get more fps that using all low/off. Could that be a driver issue? CPU being too weak? Or it would be the time to get a new graphics card what doesn't seem to be wise at all. Or that'd be glitching windows and I should get myself a Windows XP on ~40GB partition?

your cpu and gpu are a little old

but should still be able to handle PR

what settings do you play at?try messing around with the settings and see what works best
I would recomend medium high or high settings
playing games on low settings with a good gpu will decrease performance in some cases

Falling down from 30 to 18 FPS is what I'd call low since these 30 aren't that stable.

Of course it's quite old, but I am still able to play most of my more hungry games with no problem at all. Meanwhile PR give me a headache. I tried to play with video even audio settings to increase performance, obviously playing on low and resolution like 1280x720 somehow gives no performance boost on maps like Fallujah or Korengal.

Falujah and Kongral are good examples of same Heavy-CPU-Intense Maps.

Your GFX is fine, PR needs a lot of CPU. In some viewangles i got 30 Frames on Felujah with [email protected] (and GTX470+8GigRam+SSD). I upgraded to [email protected] and now i got 50-60 Frames on this spot. My GPU is always in idle mode. You need more CPU Power. Your Q6600 running on stock ? Overclock to 3-3.2Ghz and you will see FPS wont drop under 30 anymore.

Q6600 was running on stock because of my dying motherboard, finally it died! Sometimes ***** took 30 minutes of restarting to pass POST. Also, probably BIOS was so f-up so it didn't even save my OC settings. Shame, because I was cooling it with water. Now it seems that only way is to OC that 5050e, I was on some forums that I could OC my 5050e up to 3GHz with a stock cooler until I'll get cash to replace my dead Asus P5K.

looks like 5050e was bottlenecking. Now while it's running at 2990 MHz I am getting stable FPS, even if they sometimes fall in to that around 20 area, however, earlier couldn't play kokan skirmish on low because of low FPS, at this moment, I can push graphic settings higher and run it around 30 FPS, of course with FPS drops time to time. I guess story is not over yet..
