I think it's this one: Creating a Weapon for Source tutorial - Mod DBShovel wrote:This has probably been posted in this thread somewhere, but I have heard of a handgun modelling tutorial that is supposed to be legendary. It covers modelling, texturing, etc. Does anyone have the link or even know what I am talking about?
Edit: found it
Beretta 9000 Video Tutorial - Mod DB
The one you linked is good too, probably a little more advanced modelling due to the shape of the weapon, but it doesn't cover uv mapping and texturing afaik, while the Glock one I linked does.

Yeah tried both of those tutorials, I like the beretta 9000 better though (about 2 pages back you can see my end result), to me it seems a lot clearer + the glock one was sort of bugged for me. Shame that the beretta 9000 didn't have texturing with it, might look back at that glock 18 for that because I really want to texture mine.

Since we're on the subject of tutorials, I believe this one is quite good as well (got it from someone who posted it in this thread somewhere) if you want to create a high-poly weapon. In this particular case it's an RPG(-9 ?) but the end result looks real good IMO, can't wait to finish it myself.
Have fun with it

^That shit looks really professional, I'd like to see more.
The 3rd person model is usually a lesser detail model.
10 000 isnt as bad as you'd think. I think that's pretty standard for the first person model because it's only rendered once.kerrermanisNL wrote:Holy **** that's a lot of tri's. I guess more recent games can have a lot more details etc (not that I know what the norm is or anything), because those look really good.
I'm also planning on making an assault rifle or something next (like the M4 or something) + nice to see people are still posting in this thread(I've read through the whole thread allready
)

First thing I've made in like 3 years...

Any advice? And are the models created from Wings 3D compatible with 3DS Max? And this is far from finished...

Did you make the tracks on that tank?
Also, there's conversion programs that might be okay, though the smoothing groups and various other things may get messed up.

Yep. I made a single track link and spammed the "duplicate" button
.
And damn it. I just found out that Wings 3D can't export models into any file type that 3DS Max recognizes

It's just that track looks a lot better than the rest of your model, so I figured you mustve ripped it off from somewhere. But you didn't, im impressed
