[Solved] Frame Drop

Post by Rezza »

Hello guys i own an Alienware. That has good hardware components. Recently whenever i play PR i notice that i have frame drops. My frames are around 80-100 in General. Suddenly they drop to 10-30 and stay like that for 10 seconds and go back up to 100.

I tested this in several ways. This happened to me while i was holding position and also while moving around. Its really hard to pinpoint the issue because none of my other games have this problem. I really don't know how to solve it.

Thanks for all the help!

You may try to limit your FPS by opening console ( ~ ) and typing "game.lockFPS 60"

To remove the cap just replace 60 with 0 ( zero ).

Anything above 60 is useless and may cause bottleneck since human eye cant register anything above that value. Try that and report back, and then we will see what next.

Also post your specs with OS version next time please.

For first time I am stumped, your Notebook should eat up PR and spit it out without a problem.

I only have one guess, your CPU is switching to Turbo when playing PR, and when it switches off Turbo your frames drop. However your CPU is a beast and should not even need Turbo to run PR.

DO you have many background processes running?

You might try starting PR, log in, join a server, then alt-tab out, open your task manager, right click on BF2.exe and select "affinity" and set it to the Core 2. Back in Task manager, right click PR.exe and select the Core 3.

This will leave your OS and mumble, TS3, Xfire etc on Core 0, BF2 on Core 2, and PR on Core 3, ...

THis might not help, if it does not help, go back to task manager and Undo the Affinity options.

EDIT: Could be a bottleneck in the HDD, but I doubt it. I suggest you defrag your hard drive.
