Kozelsk - rename
After the outbreak of World War II a POW camp was established in the monastery for Polish officers taken captive by the Red Army during the Polish Defensive War of 1939. Between April and May 1940, the NKVD transferred approximately 14,500 of them to a forest near Katyn, where they were executed in what became known as the Katyn massacre. The remaining 200 officers were sent to a camp in Pavlishchev Bor and then to Gryazovets. The town was occupied by the German army from October 1941 until December 27, 1941 and totally destroyed. Kozelsk was rebuilt after the war.
i think this name should be changed.
thanks.

The name won't be a coincidence.Brainlaag wrote:Uhm, so what? A name coincidence, nothing more, following your logic is every guy named Adolf evil, right?
I'm going to sit on the fence for this one.

Re: Kozelsk - reename
I understand your resentment for the name of the map, but by no means should the effort be put into it because a few people may be offended by it. I'm all for resolving conflict between cultures and history and what not, with a compromise but this is pointlessly wasting the time and resources of the devs to do so.
If you do not like the name of the map, then do not play the map. Simple as that. It isn't meant to offend anyone so do not take it that way. It's a formation of letters put together to make a word, not an ethical and moral attack on certain people in the world. I fail to see your logic here...

If I am not wrong "Kozelsk" kinda depicts an area including various camps and executed people kinda like the area you described. Maybe it is supposed to be exactly that? Or did you mean the area with the camps and all is covered by a city named Kozelsk these days and therefore it doesn't make sense that there are bunkers and stuff in "Kozelsk"?
In Fallujah West hundreds of people lost their lives in a "weird" war which is pure sadness as it shows human failure (not to be political by any means
) but still: It is a great map to play this game on!
Same goes for Ramiel, Lashkar and Korengal valley, etc.
Like others said before:
Not really getting what you are aiming at; Don't get offended by something like a name - lol; DEVs time is DEVs time but still - would be sad to see them fiddle around with that; Explain further if you feel need to do so!

Words can still be offensive and that is why racial slurs still hurt, a formation of words symbolizing something is very much offensivesylent/shooter wrote:I understand your resentment for the name of the map, but by no means should the effort be put into it because a few people may be offended by it. This. Political context is irrelevant. We have had the same rant about Beirut some time ago when it was released.KiloJules wrote:If I am not wrong "Kozelsk" kinda depicts an area including various camps and executed people kinda like the area you described. I always thought it's stylized on city's past, that why you see so many bodies there.
Also I don't get your point here.

I suggest you stop playing war games or mods if you are offended when its content is about... war.

I dont think its cool that a Project reality map is where a massacre took place. Such things shouldnt be in video games. Games are parodies of real life, they shouldnt be parodies of masscres. What if i made a PR map of columbine where you play nazis shooting kids, would you think that was okay too?
Even though new players mightnt know this information, its still tasteless to keep it the way it is because now we all know.

I think they choose Kozelsk not because of past, but becouse there is rocket base, and present fictional war between two nations. Hack ww2 didnt happend only in kozelsk, it was world wide, so your point is usless.

Re: Kozelsk - rename
War is tasteless in itself and massacres in WWII weren't a rarity, they happened all over the place in some places you might not even be aware of. If it comes down to that, we should prohibit quite a lot content in PR, because it's not ethically right (someone mentioned Fallujah). Also it dates a while back, get over the past and just honor those lost in a good way, not always looking down the bad things of the past.Psykogundam wrote:I dont think its cool that a Project reality map is where a massacre took place. Re: Kozelsk - rename
I don't really understand the complaint. Yes I can see a massacre took place there in the past, but there's no implication that the map in game is trying to replicate or portray that massacre even remotely, it's merely set in the same place. Considering how vague the PR maps are in portraying accurate events, and how the majority of them are just set in outlandish hypothetical situations, I'm surprised anyone could try and link them to any social/political issues, especially ones set 70 years in the past.

Re: Kozelsk - rename
So we should rename :
Beirut
Gaza Beach
Fallujah West
Korengal Valley
Lashkar Valley
Al Basrah
Kozelsk
And others.. Pretty much all the maps because people died there? It's Project Reality, where you play in real places. Also I should stop working on Project Normandy because people died on the beaches and civilians were killed in Normandy.

Re: Kozelsk - rename
Seriously? You compare game map loosely based on city rebuilt on location where 70 years ago massacre took place with no related content in it (maybe few bodies statics) to playing "nazis shooting kids in high school"?Psykogundam wrote:I dont think its cool that a Project reality map is where a massacre took place. Also you state that name of the city related to massacre is something that shouldn't be in video games, yet game like PR about killing hordes of enemy, bombing them, killing civis for fun, is ok? ;o
I'm speechless...
Like Brainlag said World War II was full of genocides, be it officers of civil people. You can ban areas similar to all WW theaters and ban all existing areas like Fallujah, Korrengal, etc. because of horrible and wicked things that happen there.

To lazy to read anything other than the first few so... What difference does the name make? None whatsoever, it's just a name, changing the name of a map that people play won't affect how people play it, feel about it, etc.

Re: Kozelsk - rename
in Poland we are remmember this MURDER on officers, techers, profesors, doctors, and other this is kind of history of Poland. This massacre was in time when ZSRR dont fight against Poland but 1 year leater. For us Poles: Kozelsk, Charkov and Katyn are holy place. It wasnt war massacre but common murder. Change name of this isnt hard work.
