3D Support With PR

Post by dunem666 »

Santa bought be some 3d goodies for christmas! but unfortunatly ive ran ito a couple of hickups in coverting my life to 3d. So im blog stock and posting this to save you all some money if u wanna play PR in superb 3d.

First, i got a pair of nvidia 3d vision specs, then realised you still need a 3d monitor (noob). So i went shopping for 2 days to find the best 3d monitor and bought myself a LG Tridef 3d Monitor.

So finally, so i thought i had all the gear needed to play some PR and bf3 in 3d, I was wrong.

The LG screen i had bought is infact the first in range of True passive 3d monitors, where for nvidia 3d vision, you can Litterally ONLY use the ones off the reccomended list which are all LCD Active Monitors. BE CAREFULL IF YO WAN BUY ONE.

So now i got this passive monitor (?199 bargain) I no longer need the use of my nvidia 3d vision kit, it can go in the bin.

So PR in 3d.... Well i gotta say Battlefield 2 vanilla if amazing and completly outruns the nvidia active quality tenfold. Its crystal clear 3d with absolutly no flicker, no headaches.

Punkbuster... Not so happy about you using Tridef 3d because of the duplicate Direct x 11 Driver.

PR wont even load, because of using PR.exe and not Bf2.exe

Id be really appreciative if anyone reading this also has a TriDEF 3d monitor and can play it ok!

In the meantime ill add some pics and if i find a fix of some sort ill update this post :)

I don't think PR is compatible with Tridef. The only way I managed to get 3D working in PR is using my screens(Samsung S27a950d) inbuilt 2D-3D conversion (which does a pretty damn good job, seeing as its only done in screen).

mine also has a built in 2d-3d converter using the same technology as your samsung pedz, just curious, do you run the game as normal then enable the 2d -3d converter in game?

ive tried adding pr exe to the tridef startup but still doesnt load. :(

Ive only tried Nvidia 3D with "discovery glasses" (red/cyan) and it works pretty good in most games despite the enormous fps loss due to actually playing in double your resolution. Im my case i would be playing in 3360x1050. But BF2 doesn't really work with it. The terrain casts black things around objects which look really weird.

I managed to get it to work by plugging my PC to my Samsung LED 3d-tv. Was pretty much just plug in, put on dem glasses and hit the 3d-button on the remote. Looked so awesome. :P

yup, upgrading your machine can be pretty frustrating.
the reason why I only do it when the thing breaks down. (you get used to the jagged etches ;) )

I do it either way, start 3D up before, or after, doesn't seem to matter from what I've noticed. Just run it as normal and turn on the 3D conversion.

I also change some of the display settings in nVidia control panel, (put vibrancy up to 80% turn down brightness + contrast, turn up gamma) to give a bit more overall brightness and colour to the image, as it does darken once 3D is enabled.

Same as our Sammy displays then, running the in screen 2D-3D conversion on the images its gets from the PC. Pretty clever tech I think :P

Does 3D vision kill your framerate?

The true 3d will basically halve it, though I believe there are some techniques being put into newer engines which reduce this a bit.

Assets (including rifles) that use scopes or reticles within the bf2 engine are not compatible with 3d. You will see double.

The terrain system was not designed with 3d in mind: There are a few issues which, again, cause double vision.

I just got my 3D-screen couple of days ago, and I too am running the 2D->3D conversion through the screen only. Having no issues in PR or any other game. No double vision, no FPS-loss. The screen just becomes slightly darker, but I just turn the contrast a little bit. However, I rarely bother to do that, it's just so little difference.

It does feel a bit weird sometimes, but passes quite quickly. All in all, PR in 3D is pretty damn badass.
