[Solved] Mumble Root server+BF2 process error

Post by Quantom1314 »

Hello guys,

so I'm new here but I already had played PR for a while without problems for a few months using PRmumble 1.0 without any problems.

The last thing I can remember changing on the PR was installing that Project Normandy map.

Since then every time I trie to start PR I first get a message saying "ERROR: unable to open BF2 process".

But this is not the worst problem because I just get this error message once but after starting the game for a second time it works.

The real problem is that I can't get out of the roots server on mumble and manually connecting doesn't work. I believe that the first "ERROR: unable to open BF2 process" has probably something to do with this mumble issue.

What I already tried: reinstalling everything completly

NOTE: I have NOT changed any files of the game(like intro movies or sth...) and I AM running everything as administrator and using the compability mode service pack 3.

please help me

What OS, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 2008r2 etc? 32 or 64 bit?

Easiest solution is to completely uninstall and reinstall PRmumble...

Here is how to completely uninstall PRMumble 1.0 Beta 4

PR TECH SUPPORT CAN NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTION. Altering the Windows Registry can cause Windows to cease functioning properly, causes various errors, or brick the Windows installation.

Taking a Chainsaw to ALL PRmumble entries in Windows Registry.

FIrst a note, as per the Mumble FAQ, Mumble has no kernel components, source FAQ/English - Mumble.

Uninstall the older PRMUmble 0.5 beta, uninstall PRMumble 1.0, (and uninstall any other Mumble versions installed.)
Uninstall PRMumble in Control Panel preferably.
Start command prompt and type "%appdata%" in it (without quotes) and press Enter. It should open YourUsername>AppData>Roaming directory. Then you can delete the complete Mumble(PR Edition) folder.
Then backup your registry inside RegEdit or your registry editor of choice. Directions to do this inside RegEdit: Back up the registry

Download and install CCleaner from Piriform: CCleaner - Download
Directions for the following steps from Piriform: CCleaner - Registry cleaning
ALWAYS backup your registry inside CCLeaner when prompted!!!.
then use CCleaner and get rid of registry errors related to Mumble,

Open Regedit again.
then search through your registry in RegEdit (In Menu, Edit->Find, or Ctrl-F ) Use search term: Mumble .
and delete everything (except the uninstaller entries) related to PRMumble and Mumble.

Then reinstall PRMumble. From here: http://realitymodfiles.com/dbzao/PR_Mum ... Beta_4.msi

That's what I call taking a chainsaw to a chopstick.

I did every thing and it didn't work...once again: I think the problem is more about the bf2 process then mumble itself.

How did you install the Normandy map? And can you play on the map once you get ingame?

No.
I didn't try the map itself out but I still played a little time with working mumble after the installation of Project Normandy.
I intalled it with the normal setup.exe

please help me

Dont use XP compatibility on BF2 or PR. It causes memory leaks and you will have much trouble with it enabled.

What you can do first for me is to post your system specs, along with OS version.

Then we talk :)

Missing graphic card there, but its not really important for this issue. Now do what Litoralis said in second post above.

Try with compatiblty mode for XP SP3 on mumble but not on PR/BF2. Run all as admin.

I hope you havent skipped this important step when you were uninstalling mumble
Start command prompt and type "%appdata%" in it (without quotes) and press Enter. It should open YourUsername>AppData>Roaming directory. Then you can delete the complete Mumble folder.
If you dont do that its like you havent done anything at all.

OK, we have to look at event viewer in Windows, and in the PRerror log.

SO, let's replicate the error once. Start PR once and get the pop up message saying "ERROR: unable to open BF2 process". Note the local time.

Next go to your PR installation directory, such as C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr or something similar. Find the file PRError.log , and open it with notepad. scrol down tot he bottom and copy and paste the error messages you see. You can now close Notepad.

Next, Open State Menu, type in: event viewer and the first search result should be Event Viewer, double click on it .
IN Event Viewer:
In the left column, Select Event Viewer (Local)

In the right column, you have an option to Filter the logs entries. Select "Create Custom View.."
IN pop up menu, select "time frame: Last hour"
Select the CRitical , Warning , Verbose, and Error tick boxes.
Select "By Log" tick box, then in the drop down menu, select both options.
Click Ok.
You might get a warning about creating a custom view with more than 10 entries, click OK to continue anyway.
Then select a name for it and click OK again.

IN the left column, select "Custom Views" and expand that, then double click the name you gave your custom filter.
Look for anything related to BF2.exe, PR.exe Tr.exe , PR_mumble.exe , Anything related to UAC, and anything related to your video card or CCC.exe for AMD cards, or for the NVidia Control Center (I forgot the name of it's exe ).

Post anything that looks suspicious at the moment you last recreated your error message when trying to start PR.

After 1 month the problem disappeared but it may come back....mumble is working again. I have no idea what happened.
If the problem comes back I'll make contact.
Thanks for the support. PR has a very effective community!
