commander tutorial?

Post by Sp1d3rX »

Ok, so I was on MEC on Muttrah, I became the commander. I sent out the uav, the thing seemed to be stuck to the side of a mountain... I admit I don't know what I am doing, but I tried looking for a tutorial for commander - there is none.

So, commanders, what do you do and how do you do it? How do you get inside the UAV thing? what do you hit to bring up the UAV? is there a certain key combination that you need to press? I need some help here and I feel that there is a missing piece of the manual that just isn't out there, or at least it's not googleable.

Wait for a few mins with patience mate!
UAV takes time to move to position!

Edit:I think the latest Manual does have the tutorial.

right click on commander map to deploy UAV and choose UAV while on command post...UAV takes an unknown( for ME) time to get into position(while UAV is "traveling to target area, you get some sort of "glitched view").Depending on faction you will have normal and thermal imaging(i think is the F key to change view modes), with left click you can laze targets. Also, im not sure if ins/talibans have UAV(use to have and it was B&W image)
UAV can be deployed after you get a message "UAV is ready" on bottom side of the screen( you need to have commander map closed to be able to see the message, although is an audio cue when ready).

Insurgents don't get UAV but "observers" represented by the waypoint markers.

- Deploy an observer by putting down a waypoint. After a minut (iirc) the observer will be in place and will start reporting hostile activity in the area (never found out what the radius of this observation area is).

- The intelligence from the observers will be delayed 1 minut (which IMO should be decreased to 30 seconds). When you receive the intel you will get a text message (in the same way you would get a message about a kit being at your feet after requested it). You will not be able to see this message while having the commander's map up but you will hear a sound when the message comes in and you can bring down the map to see the message.

You have 7 waypoints to put down (up to G). Make them count... It's a very useful tool if you place them correctly. If you have a dedicated technical squad to investigate the intel you can really make it hell for bluefor ;)

0.96 Manual:
The commander of conventional forces and the militia is able to control an
unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from his team's command post or armored
command vehicle (ACV). The UAV in Project Reality does not reveal enemy
positions automatically but gives the commander the means to survey the
battlefield visually. The commander can control the UAV's camera while it
cruises at a constant altitude.
○ The UAV is launched by placing the UAV marker on the command map. It takes 3
minutes for the UAV to reach the target area.
○ The camera has three magnification settings switched with the pop smoke key
(default: X) and can operate in normal and thermal mode (selectable using 1 & 2).
In thermal mode it can be used to mark targets with a laser. These targets stay
marked for 30 seconds.
○ The UAV can be relocated by assigning it a new position on the map. It will take
another 3 minutes to reach the new location.
○ After a flight time of about 20 minutes the UAV needs to be refueled. Refueling the
UAV takes 10 minutes.
The militia's UAV only offers a greyscale TV picture and limited magnification.
Thermal imaging and laser targeting are not available to the militia.
Insurgents and other irregular forces (except for the militia) do not have access
to the UAV. They can gain some intelligence on enemy troop movement by
sending out informants. This is simply done by placing waypoints at the
locations where you want the informants to head to. About 5 minutes after
placing a waypoint the informant will be on location and report if there are
multiple enemies in his area (6 or more). The reports take about 30 to 60
seconds to reach the commander and can be used to determine where the
opposition is approaching from.

Wow, I don't think this was ever documented. I tried the UAV, and every person on my team thought it would work.

I'll give the "observers" a try. So the intel doesn't show up on radar, just on text messages... alright.

'Limeni[BiH wrote:;1744403']Do only commander sees this messages or it's visible to everyone?
Only the commander will see the message. What I usually, do if I do casual commanding is just write it in caps on team chat like: "INTEL ON WP B"

Also I don't believe you have to be in the command post for getting the intel but I can't quite remember...

Actually documented in the Manual just like Ploddit pointed out :P

I think that the best Commander Manual is the experience; ask other commanders and they will teach you more than 1000 manuals.

PR Ever!
