New Player Here

Post by prozac26 »

Hey guys,

I downloaded PR on the weekend. I haven't got a chance to play yet. I was mostly a CS player, then got bored and moved to BC2 and BF3. I got bored of them fast since there is a tiny learning curve.

Can you guys recommend a good server (in North America) to play on?

Thanks.

got to this link
Project Reality - PRSPY - Server and player browser and tracker - Create a buddy list - Launch PR directly
prspy allows you to see which servers are up and how many players etc. the flags on the left show which country is hosting the server.

play as a team, don't lonewolf and read the manual, plus listening to your squad leader and moving with your squad as a team will win you the game.

Best North American server is Tactical Gamer if you want to learn how to play the game the right way. If my memory serves me correct, their server will start being seeded tonight around 1800 EST. Look for me ([YES] PricelineNegotiator) in there, I'll show you around. Most of the maps will be infantry, which is the best place to start.

I recommend before you do anything that you read the manual.

Welcome to the community, Prozac. As Priceline said; the best North American server is Tactical Gamer. I'm not quite sure how much you know about this mod, but as far as I'm concerned, you should drop everything you learned from CS and Battlefield and start all over again.

'Limeni[BiH wrote:;1744455']You forgot CIA server, it's very good, it's full most of the time and mumble is mandatory and that's a plus.
Both Priceline and I think that Tactical Gamer is the best server. We didn't forget anything, really. You can still recommend it, though!

CIA is a good server, but I can't play on it due to ping issues. Tactical Gamer gives me a better ping and experience in my opinion. The server that he chooses first will be most influential on how he plays the game, that is why I recommended Tactical Gamer.

The situational awareness will need to be kept from CS, however the way that you shoot an enemy will have to be totally revamped. Unless your barrel is sticking in the enemy's stomach, your shots will be affected by deviation. Deviation is represented very differently in Project Reality, and it will take time to get used to. Also make sure you download Mumble. It is without a doubt the most communications tool you can get. If you have Xfire add me: mastasnipa845.

I hope thats not the reason you came to PR :P because you'll have one hell of a ride if you did xD
Unless you want something with a big learning curve. Then let me direct you to the wonderful world of the forums :) Please read the forum rules when you get a chance. Don't want to be warned by an R-MOD for doing stuff wrong :P

He probably came to PR because it has a bigger learning curve, not because he think it has a tiny one.

The most major change from CS is that PR doesn't require skill of any kind. When you know the basics, you're ready to go.

I think CIA is the best server when ever I go play on Tactical theres no team work involved Idk if it's just me and the timing I go in to there server at or what but if I'm gonna play PR I play on CIA because I know that there will always be team work there and mumble is forced which I love. Plus I get 35 ping on CIA It's probably hosted in Canada I think or my internet is flipping fast xD

Use common sense and start with the basics - Rifleman and listening to your SL.

TG and CIA have relatively the same ping, but you obviously got stuck on the wrong team during the wrong round(s) on TG as the team cohesion of the TG regulars is very high. I enjoy CIA quite a bit and I would rate it a close 2nd to TG, although they seem to have more of the newer, less versed players imho. Also having played on TG for years I formed a bit of bias (a lot of us have).

1) Use Mumble 1.0! The best servers use it and it leads to by far the best teamwork

2) PR is not a fast paced close-combat fps like CS, ping doesn't really matter. I'm in California and I play on Euro servers all the time, and the ping doesn't cause my player or my bullets to lag.

That being said, I recommend PRTA servers as they are solid w/ teamwork. I hear good things about CIA as well, wouldn't recommend wasting your time with TG, as most of them shun Mumble, which really is a great mistake.

Wait, what? It's not that PR doesn't require skill, it's just that it requires more of a cerebral sort of intelligence than CS does.

In CS, "skill" mostly consists of knowing the best way of bunnyhopping in circles, being pro at quickscoping your AWP, etc. The skill in CS is mainly physical, while the skill required in PR is more of a strategic type.

Although physical keyboard-mouse talent is a plus in PR, there's a great deal more demand for players who are able to think on their feet strategically, making informed decisions within their squad as well as in coordination with other squads.

PR is about working together and using teamwork to accomplish a relatively large number of complex objectives, which is arguably more challenging and more rewarding than knowing how to mash your keyboard for a high K/D ratio with extra headshots.
