how to improve map loading time?

Post by crankybear22986 »

i have been having an issue with map loading times since i loaded up PR onto my new computer. maps take anywhere from 2-4mins to load. on my old computer it took about 30secs-1min. i have closed all background programs that i can, and cleared the BF2 cache files. my new computer has better specs than the old one but still lags more and loads maps a hell of alot slower.any help with this would be greatly appreciated. i have also defragged my computer and tried running gamebooster, but still the loading times were the same

Specs for this computer are:

AMD Dual-Core Processor E450
AMD Raedon HD 6320 graphics
6GB DDR3 Memory
500GB HDD

It depends on hard drive speed. I see you're running it on notebook PC so its not really that strange, as they usually have 5400 rpm hard drives.

You might try disabling your AV software and all background applications.

First I have a question,
I am interested in buying a htpc with almost exact same specs as your PC.
What level graphics can you play PR at?

You do not have many options here, Massive stated the case properly, your HDD is quite slow,

TO speed up PR map loading times could substantially slow down the OS... I don't think it's a good idea.
You would ahve to take this project on your self,
the idea: Run a custom defrag script that moves your PR maps files to the fastest part of your hard drive.
the downside: the PR map files will replace your OS files on the fastest part of your hard drive. And you have to either spend some cash on a defrag program or learn to how write a script for mydefrag.com defrag program.

Better idea, save some cash and buy a older generation SATAII SSD and a little docking station for your 500GB HDD as external storage in the coming months.

In the meantime, you can go download the defrag program at mydefrag.com and install all the built in scripts during installation, run the "System Disk Monthly" script to properly sort out your hard drive.

As of right now i am running PR on pretty much low settings, and still lag a fair bit on maps smaller maps with lots of detail. (such as fallujah which is the worst, i cant aim at all on that map, others being karbala when i am inside the city, ramiel same thing when i enter the city.)

but as i said, my old HP laptop had lesser specs and was able to run PR on Med-high settings. it had Intel Pentium Processor, not too sure bout graphics. Nvidia or somthin. 320G HD and 4G RAM. and map loading time was between 30-45 seconds.

On this computer map loading time is 2-3 mins.

Can you give us exact models or links towards its specs so we can do a comparison?

Notebook with dual core and more ram does not mean much, there are lots of other factors to look at, and your notebook is not gaming one for sure.

Other factors would be HDD speed, and graphic chip VRam ( shared or dedicated ). Of course general fitness plays a lot here, as clock rates of CPU and RAM, and power saving features.

Which OS were you running on old notebook?

I've been playing PR:BF2 during several years and always got the same heavy loading times...

Then I had a P4 3.0GHz / 2MB RAM with NV7600GS 256MB

Now I have an AMD Phenom IIx6 2.8Ghz / 12 GB RAM with NV460GTX to make stuff like this

I spent same time everytime... it's not related to PR, IMO it's a BF2 issue... it does not use multi core in anyway...

As a matter of fact I'm running both PR:ArmA2 and PR:BF2, and a lot of other appz, is pretty much the same... no delays but no rush either...
