[Solved] Frame rate and lag issues - virus related

Post by colodorian »

Hi, long time PR player (since around .85 i think) and recently ive been having lag and frame rate issues. Every time i load up a game i get a jittery walk where the avatar appears to be stuck in sprint by its just him lowering his weapon repeatedly(i could try to get a video if you want). I've tried lowering settings and closing background programs. I've tried a few suggestions from the threads and they don't do much. Im not the most computer savvy person but I know my way around. BTW vanilla BF2 is having problems opening.

some specs.
OS: Win.7
Processor:AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+, 2000 Mhz
Graphics Card:GeForce 8500 GT (latest driver)

more if needed (again not the most computer gifted)

Thanks

The PR installer will heavily fragment the PR files if your hard drive was already fragmented before install.
I suggest the easiest route is the best solution here, defrag the drive you have bf2 and PR installed on.

I defraged the hard drive and still experienced some stutter and then my computer crashed to BSoD trying to join a server

Do you have Creative X-FI sound card perhaps?

Are your video settings too high maybe? Did you terminate all background processes? Using any overlays?

8500GT ok, but how much VRAM, and how much system RAM do you have?

Try to start local server and see if you experience same thing again on local.

Mentioned you cant start vanilla BF2? Describe the problem.

3 gb ram and my sound card is Realtek not x-FI. BF2 works now if I use a different account yet some servers cause the stutter and lag too. Would this mean it could be a connection issue?

Yes, your on the right track, if it is now server specific it is a connection issue, or even a server side issue, beyond your control.

Exactly. If server has problems with processing data, and its CPU is bottlenecking or RAM, or any part of it, it will affect all players on it. This usually happens on Coop servers but Ive seen it on Deployment servers too.

If that's the case it shouldn't bother you at all, nothing you can do to fix it, except to switch to some better server.

It seems to happen on most servers I join so could it be my router because recently i changed some settings on it to allow my Xbox to connect. Should I return it to default settings and see what I get, or are there any other fixes I can attempt?

If your problem started after that change then yes, try reverting it back and see what happens.

Try deleting the BF2 Cache, I found for some reason the PR:V update really slowed down to 15 FPS, deleted the cache and it went back up to 100fps... No idea what it put in the cache to slow it down, but still, worked :P .

Also cache is located:
