Yet another 'Can I run PR:Arma 2' thread! Yay!

Post by MrTomRobs »

Hi techy people!

So my time at Uni is nearly up, and with a little luck i'll be getting a job moving out of my god awful house and move into somewhere with an ACTUAL INTERNET CONNECTION! Yay! So i've figured this is going to leave me with some free time, and possibly a little bit of money (which makes a change, you can only have toast sandwiches so many times a year)

As it is, my previous laptop went tech and i had to replace it. I know my predecessor didn't have a chance in hell of running even the base arma 2 game due to the fact that it was about 4 years old and low end even then. However, my new(er) one is a bit more spec, and seeing as ARMA2 PR is gaining momentum hand over fist, i thought i'll have a look at getting it.

I'll be getting it eventually, but i'd like to see if whether or not i'll be able to run it on this laptop (once i've cleaned it of my old programs and what not onto external drives), or whether or not i'll need to build my own computer first.

Here's my spec tech heads!

Laptop - Acer Travelmate 5742
CPU - Intel i5-480m @2.66Ghz
Graphics (this is the bit i'm not sure about) - Intel HD Graphics, up to 1755MB DVMT
Monitor - 15.6" HD (1366x76 8) LED LCD
RAM - 4GB DDR3
Hard Drive - 320 GB (plenty of space left)

Any advice would be appreciated friendos!

Easiest and most accurate way to see if you can run Arma 2 if you already have the PC is to download the demo. Go to steam, or Arma 2's website (or search Arma 2 demo), download it and see if it plays well. Nobody will ever be able to give an accurate answer unless they have the same hardware...

But to me, Intel integrated graphics might have a hard time with such a poorly optimised game... Bearing in mind I have a laptop with intel HD3000(later version of yours) on my laptop and that can just about run Starcraft 2 (A very well made game, well optimised graphically).
But never harm to try the demo :) It's free after all :P

Do what Pedz said. And I think you will be able to run it, but will you have high FPS Im not sure. Might get about 30ish which is still playable. If your HDD is 5400rpm and not 7200 that might be a problem. Just dont forget to update all the drivers.
