[Help] weapon ICONS

Post by Insanitypays »

hey guys, I've been working on my mod, and everything was going smooth until I tried to change my weapon icons on the HUD+kit selection to my own versions. No errors or anything, they just don't show up in game. I know the directory and file names are right, I have also tried changing the file type from tga to dds, which hasn't worked either. Any ideas?

-ADMIN-> could you move this to bf2 community modding? in my haste I must have put this in Arma's mod stuff. I'm quite the noob...

frank_beans wrote: And replace them with these:
rem ---BeginComp:WeaponHud ---
ObjectTemplate.createComponent WeaponHud
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.weaponIcon Ingame\Weapons\Icons\Hud\your_icon.dds
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.altWeaponIcon Ingame\Weapons\Icons\Hud\your_icon.dds
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.selectIcon Ingame\Weapons\Icons\Hud\your_icon.dds

Or this

rem ---BeginComp:WeaponHud ---
ObjectTemplate.createComponent WeaponHud
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.weaponIcon Ingame\Weapons\Icons\Hud\your_icon.tga
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.altWeaponIcon Ingame\Weapons\Icons\Hud\your_icon.tga
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.selectIcon Ingame\Weapons\Icons\Hud\your_icon.tga

No need to change the TGA to DDS ;)

No it doesnt
Atlases are used to save a very, very, very small amount of system resources
By having the game engine load 1 (or more) large image/images,instead of dozens or hundreds of small images

Atlas isn't needed, but may be better if you have a lot if icons. If you don't use an atlas, you can save the images as .tga or .dds (or sometimes renamed to .dds, sometimes flipped vertically). But always refer to them as .tga in your .tweak files.

It doesnt matter
if it did, I would of stated that above
I have used DDS format icons, with DDS written in the tweak file, for years, and just to make sure my information is 100% correct
I just did a quick test, with DDS files, listed as DDS,with no problems at all

Why is it you say otherwise, have you had problems with that method ??

PS.Did you know frank_beans,is the best weapon icon maker,to ever walk this planet

I believe I had issues with that, yes, hence I always refer to them as .tga. But hey, if .dds works, feel free to use that ;) .
