It's a fine idea.
The 128+ servers have proven than theyre unnecessary, and it provides a little more realism.

If you want to remove nametags because of realism, put them on the soldier's uniform like in real life. Or make uniqe faces for everyone.

Re: Remove name tags?
I'm split on if this is a good thing on one hand it is more realistic/immersive, but after Playing on the 128 nam server for 20 mins and having 5 deaths all of wich where team kills because I flanked the enemy squads that were engaging the smurfs. Are the majority of people going to be able to adjust to this and not shoot anything that moves. I understand mistakes happen but when I'm tked after shooting an Nva soldier In front of everyone or tked after announcing I'm friendly over mumble for a good 30 secs and I'm still killed by the guy 20 feet from me it gets annoying after a while.

Re: Remove name tags?
My opinion is:
1. remove all tags from BF2.exe
2. using mumble or TR.exe, add transparent tags for squad members, as an overlay
3. the tag of the person who is talking should be clear visible (not transparent) in the overlay, right there on (above) him
of course these would be nice:
4. entirely remove squad system from the BF2.exe
5. add new (menu) system within the game that would be completely build on mumble, with squads and platoons
6. increase number of players to 300. (this is negotiable, but it is what I think would be nice)

- Keep them on your squad mates (as you would know the guys in your group very well; you could tell them apart by their height, beard, face, stature, voice, etc.) If not the whole name at least a green dot so you can tell them apart from all the blue guys sitting around them.
- Keep them on friendly SLs (as you would know them, salute them or they would identify them selfs e.g. when your squad enters a building held by friendlies and you as a SL wanna know who is responsible)

I can live without tags, its really hard to get used to at first, but you get used to it.
Though KiloJule's idea of Green tags only makes sense, I like that.

Binos are okay. Tags are very vanilly.
Removal of tags has two upsides. 128 servers have no tags altogether, problem solved. Second thing is. Requires more teamwork. You have binocs, scopes, weapon sounds. Map is piss easy to read. (If it was my way, maps would be topographical with no icons on them, except flags. True hardcore. But map AND binocs AND tags is not really PR style.

Yes, I know, I've actually addressed that in the post you have quoted.SGT.Ice wrote:Dosen't work on those that aren't in any squad.

And that was with name tags enabled! I can't imagine it can possibly get much worse for you without themmaniac1031 wrote:I'm split on if this is a good thing on one hand it is more realistic/immersive, but after Playing on the 128 nam server for 20 mins and having 5 deaths all of wich where team kills because I flanked the enemy squads that were engaging the smurfs. Maybe in a coordinated assault your sq leader would have told other sqd leaders of your plans and they might have been more aware of your l33+ flanking moves and not busted several caps in your ***?
Good, so it's settled then, we try no name tags on dbzao's test server then

Re: Remove name tags?
I think nametags from friendly soldiers should visible when you are near them (10-15m). But why aiming at them? Thats pointless, irl you can move your head and you can clearly recognize a known Member even its not in middle of your sight. If you have to aim at them its quite unrealistic and frustating...even someone should remember that someone still needs to administrate a server and without nametags player reports are much harder ...

Re: Remove name tags?
Are you incapable of reading I stated it was on the 128 so no name tags I also stated that I did tell the squad what I was doing. And I'm not sure how much or you play but close quarters jungle warfare isn't the most organised thing in the world so I dont have enough time to announce that to the entire team now can I.Tommygun wrote:And that was with name tags enabled! Re: Remove name tags?
I think tags resembles IRL situational awareness which we just don't have in a game.
Please don't remove.

Re: Remove name tags?
Removal of name tags coupled with the restriction on all enemy kits would make a whole lot of sense. I would however like to see the number over other squad leaders, this would keep things easier to organize for SLs (IE: SL -"Where the fk r u guys!? Im way over in C9k4 what are u doing in D6k1?" Squaddies - "Uhhh we followed this guy and thought it was you....turns out he doesn't even have a squad nor speak english....")
Removing the tags and allow enemy kits to be used will result in those really sad gamey moments which while amusing at first really go to prove the extent players will take advantage of a loophole (that one video was cool and mega-troll but just showed how insanely stupid it is to allow the use of any enemy kits without name tags)

Re: Remove name tags?
Appology
@maniac. Appologies, I'm on holiday and not yet had a chance to download and play the Vietnam mod yet. I didn't realise the name tags had been removed in the 128 player mod.
/appology
I think map markers and mumble should be sufficient. I don't know how easily customizable and specific you can get? If it's possible to have a number over just your sqd leader then that's a pretty good solution that others have suggested.

Re: Remove name tags?
this is the best idea overall. get an interactive overlay or make mumble one that could be manipulated to show names over their general position. also making squads in a 3rd party overlay would be best if kits and spawns were somehow linked to it. an overlay for PR could do some awesome things... you have to be magical to do stuff like that though.KingKong.CCCP wrote:My opinion is:

Re: Remove name tags?
I would not like this and would quit playing for being tked so often, as well as tking people.
This would require a level of awareness that simply is not possible in a video game.
Not to mention this would be a nightmare for admins.

This is a very good point.Joeziah wrote:

I don't think teamkilling would increase that much though, after a while people would get used to identifying their targets better before shooting.
