Help getting started

Post by crazyquick »

Greetings! I have no experience with the mid, and just ordered bf2 so that I can play the newly released pr vietnam mod, ( been a Vietnam fan since the 80s). Is there just one download to be able to access the vietnam mod or incremental downloads. I have been having trouble with that. Thanks

You need BF2, then you need to patch it to 1.41 and 1.50 (iirc).
Then you have to download all 2 or 3 parts of Project Reality and install them in order.
Finally, you can then download PR Vietnam and install it aswell.

You are ready then.

Hey crazyquick,

You can find all PR downloads on this page: Downloads | Project Reality
Install first BF2, then the patches 1.41 and 1.50 in order. Then install PR with the 1,2 & 3 installers - make sure you get the full client downloads and not the patch if you don't have a previous version of PR installed. You might want to get the mappack as well. After that, you're ready to install Vietnam.

Once you've settled in a bit, the PRTA community offers training for new PR players. Go have a look at:

How to become super pro at project reality

1. Install BF2, make sure it is patched to 1.5
2. Install project reality (not through desura, shitsux), all three parts, then install the map pack, then the vietnam mod, then the normandy mod. Old winter map pack, test airfield, SP mod, and eventually falklands if you wnat even more content.
3. Install mumble 1.0, and have it running when you open up project reality
4. Read the manual thoroughly
5. Maybe mess around in co-op, or private servers to get a feel for controls
6. Jump straight into a server
7. join a squad that's called "infantry"
8. tell the squad leader youre new
9. play 1000 hours and learn from your mistakes.

Be sure to run vanilla BF2 once before installing PR.

1. Install BF2, make sure it is patched to 1.5
1a. Run BF2, create an online account, join a online multiplayer server, adjust your video settings. <- THis is required because BF2 does not finish writing registry entries until it's run once. the PR mod requires the registry entry to run.
2. Install project reality (not through desura, shitsux), all three parts, (then run PR once and join a online server) then install the map pack, then the vietnam mod, then the normandy mod. Old winter map pack, test airfield, SP mod, and eventually falklands if you wnat even more content.
3. Install mumble 1.0, and have it running when you open up project reality
