Hello there.

Post by NegRepKing »

Hello there, I'm NegRepKing. I have played Project Reality a few times but haven't enjoyed it much because i didn't know how to play it. It was too complicated for me. Well i'm back and I'd love to give it another try. My favorite type of weapon is sniper. Maybe someone can give me a hand with the basics of the game. I know that i cant fly a chopper/jet unless i train in an offline game which is fine by me. But I need someone to take me through the basics. I'm 14 years old and I don't have a microphone. I love project reality but as I said before i never knew how to play it. Previously I had problems with the servers. It kept on saying I was banned but I never used any aimbots/hacks.

Thanks and goodbye.

I suggest you read the manual that comes with PR, it gives you all the information you need.

Generally the Sniper kit is hard to get and people usaully kick snipers out of their squad, you better create a sniper squad when you have the kit. Also if you're not using teamwork while sniper (killing Officers, medics), marking targets for air support, giving informations, people won't really like you.

Welcome to the forums!

Well, first of all, you should really consider buying a microphone, as it makes the game more immersive, allows you to have a better teamplay and makes you more effective as a PLAYER.

Secondly, be sure to install the new mumble 1.0 and run it alongside PR. It makes the game even better and its the most used way of communication on many servers and on majority of the good ones. Some servers may even kick you for not being on mumble.

Reading the manual will sure help alot, as it will save you many questions. Best way to go around ingame is to join a squad and tell them that you are new and you need guidance. There is plenty of good Squadleaders out there who are eager to lend you a hand.
I would also heavilly advice to stick to the rifleman kit at first, until you get the ropes of the game mechanics. The sniper role in particular is quite hard to play well AND quite different from other games.

Im sure somebody will contact you here in no time, i would "train" you myself, but i dont have time to play these days...

TL;DR read the manual, get mumble 1.0, join squad and tell them that you are new. If they kick you right away, they're stupid.

Welcome to the forums!

You'd be well advised to invest in a microphone; while a high pitched voice might irritate some players, most will welcome you as long as you prove willing to learn and interested in teamwork.

On that note: Stay away from the sniper kit. And stay away from the marksman kit. Those roles should be left for the more experienced players (just like crewman and pilot kits); this isn't due to us not wanting new players to enjoy the game, but simply due to the game being built around teamwork and team-wide coordination, and the more powerful, important and/or unique a role is, the more they will need to communicate with the rest of the team, the more they are relied on, and the more responsibility they are burdened with.

To do yourself a favour, start with an easy kit, such as Rifleman. You should also learn how to use the Medic kit. I would not suggest playing full-time medic as a beginner as, especially on really large servers, medic can be extremely stressful and demanding (as failure will not result in only your own death, but will result in many people complaining due to having died when they firmly believe you could or should have helped them; sometimes they may even be right). Still, knowing how the medic kit works is imperative to the survival of your squad as if the medic is shot down, you might happen to be closest to him and required to revive him and then give him his kit back - make sure you know how to do that.

Other than that; make sure you know how to follow orders, stick with your squad, and remain somewhat disciplined in combat. And if any possible, get a mic, it'll save your life and the life of your squad many times.

Alright. Time to dissect your post. First of all, the "Sniper" is NOT a "weapon" A weapon is a semi or bolt action rifle designated to take out high profile targets. You mean to say "My favorite kit is a sniper." Which in this game, is ALOT more than just "QUICK SCOPEZZZ 360 SHOT YEAHHH" You'll need to learn how to give coords for pilots, learn how to use the GLTD, waiting timing your shots, moving etc. There is so much more to being a sniper than you would think. Plus the fact(Not bashing) that you're 14 kind of fits my general idea of what most people in your age group like.

2nd tip: GRAB A MICROPHONE. It is ESSENTIAL to playing PR. Also, don't herp derp in servers, be on mumble, tell your SL your new, and for goodness sake do not ever grab a sniper kit immediately, ask what the SL wants. (This will save your *** on servers if you do this)

Personally to the last poster. I find you disrespectful the way you said 360 Quickscopes and stuff. I'm not a call of duty player im a battlefield player and i know that Call of duty players completely ruin the purpose of a sniper. Sniper has to stay hidden. Sniper has to be far from combat. And there is a scope on the sniper for a reason. so you can stop doing that. And just because im 14 doesn't mean anything. I find some 18+ people who are immature. And I know it is hard that's why i asked for help.

Oh no.... Before you snipe you should spot. Putting the team first, before you snipe is essential.

Off we fuck.

Airmaps just give lazes to CAS, otherwise it's pretty useless. On insurgency make it so that you have a nice visual to the cache and keep them down there while some squad moves in for the cache. It's an easy game, dw, you'll get it in a week.

Well welcome to PR and the forums and from the above reception not a completely warm welcome. About your connection problems, make sure BF2 is updated for punkbuster and that you make sure your firewall is not blocking PR. Other than that make sure you get a mic (they go for around 15 U.S dollars, not sure about Canadian of course) and pay attention to EVERYTHING people try to tell you. If we meet in a server I'll make sure to send you a squad invite

Just don't talk like a kid (if that makes sense) and talk clearly. Voip might make you sound weirder so getting use to mumble will help

A sniper is a weapon as well as an instrument of war. Who's sole purpose is to deny the enemy free reign.

Read the whole manual and ur (almost) good 2 go. (mic and mumble and other mentioned things ofcourse too ;) )
Yeah, just don't talk too much/make it short OR play with/try to find GOOD players who are NOT irritated THAT fast by people talking much! ;) (not that hard to find those patient players! Some of the people I found and played/am playing with are irritated fast... ;) not that easy with them... ;) But they're really good players... :D

If you're taking sniper be ready to eat flak from other players when you do not perform your job. Most people will kick you from the squad for taking such a situational kit. Start as Rifleman and once you get the hang of it work your way up to sniper. It's not just about the kills it's about the intel and directing teammates fire onto enemy positions (mortars/cas/etc). You will also have to be careful as unaware snipers are prime targets and easy prey to anyone who isn't looking through a straw at a target 500 meters away.

You have no idea how many new players come into PR claiming they will be sniper, you approach this game with the wrong attitude from the get go. Teamwork is what PR is about not lonewolfing, that is why you get trolled for assuming you can snipe worth a damn on your first post.

This should go in the manual.

Cryptic one-liners ftw!

"I seriously hope you guys don't do this", according to urban dictionary. Which... I still don't understand ;)
Why shouldn't he look for good players?
