Voip won't turn on in options.

Post by Battlemech92 »

When I enter a server I notice that I dont have the mic symbol near my name when I am in a squad. When I go into the audio options the enable voip button doesn't seem to turn on after I pick apply. Is there any way to get the game to enable it? My computer is using windows 7 64 bit, geforce gts 450 video card, and an amd (fx) 4100 quad core.

It should be enabled by default. When you finish BF2 installation it should prompt you to configure your microphone, and if you skipped it you can run it again by launching 'BF2VoiceSetup.exe'. Its in your Battlefield2 game directory. Run it as admin.

You cant enable it if you already loaded game ( playing in MP or SP ). Default PTT key is 'B' so check your sound configuration. Also on some servers its disabled.

What do I do when I run the bf2voicesetup.exe ? I don't use a mic when im playing, but if the enable voip option isn't on I can't hear other people talking. I didn't have this problem when i was on windows 7 32 bit but after I got a new motherboard and switched to windows 7 64 bit it started happening.

Hmm, well not sure how to do it without microphone. That might be your problem, cause you cant setup voip if you're missing hardware to run it.

Mics are not expensive you should really get one.

You can try to edit files manually. Go to My Documents>Battlefiled2>Profiles and you will see folders with numbers like 0001, 0002, 0003 etc...depends how many profiles you got.

Now you need to find your profile you play with mostly, or go trough all of them and edit file called 'Audio.con' by opening it in notepad and changing values to this

Code: Select all

AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 1
AudioSettings.setVoipPlaybackVolume 1
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureVolume 1
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureThreshold 0.1
AudioSettings.setVoipBoostEnabled 1
AudioSettings.setVoipUsePushToTalk 1
AudioSettings.setProvider "software"
AudioSettings.setSoundQuality "High"
AudioSettings.setEffectsVolume 0.153365
AudioSettings.setMusicVolume 0.0481897
AudioSettings.setHelpVoiceVolume 0.602238
AudioSettings.setEnglishOnlyVoices 0
AudioSettings.setEnableEAX 0
To find out what profile you are editing open 'Profile.con' in notepad in folders 0001, 0002...etc...it contains your in game nickname - do not edit this file.

I tried changing the values nothing changes. Is there any way to adjust sound acceleration on windows 7? This fixed the problem when i had windows XP.

Please dont bump threads so often. If you tried manual fix above and it will not work for you, I'm afraid there is nothing much left to do. You can try to go trough Windows 7 CP>Sound and see if your speakers are set as default communication device, but beyond that I have no ideas what to do here.
