Can I fly now?
Hello fellas. Mostly a lurker here, but some of you might have seen me on the PRTA server back in the days and recently on *NwA* AAS (in-game I go by Jespernilsson).
I have been doing some offline practice with the Huey and Blackhawk transport choppers and have made about 30 successful landings in a row in different terrain on different maps.
I am in no way a pro at flying, but I believe I need to start doing the real thing sooner or later and I am asking you if the figure above is good enough and if the community as a whole will be able to bare with me flying in the days to come. There will certainly be accidents and general failures from my part, but I feel I am up to transporting with heli.
So - am I ready? Will you forgive me for my inevitable newbie failings?

You will crash, or get shot down. Shit happens.
Just don't be afraid to tell ppl that you wont put them down to close to a hot lz. They can do a walk for a min or two.

don't hover too high (or TOW or HAT will get you) and keep your finger on the flare button when entering risky areas...

Re: Can I fly now?
To get good with the Blackhawk I just loaded up Kokan and flew all over the place really low making landings in really difficult places. You don't want to end up doing pass after pass trying to get someone into their preferred LZ. For the Huey I have come to enjoy using the Alt layer of Ramiel that has USMC on it. If you can get good at coming in hot and slowing down in a pinch and landing on one of those really small rooftops then you'll do fine. And when I'm done with that I just fly as fast as I can weaving between streets and intersections.
You really just have to be confident that you can control your bird at the threshold of both its and your own limits. You are basically wasting tickets if in order to land in a hot LZ you have to slow down to a crawl and just hover recklessly for 20 seconds.
Basically for self improvement you need to just find impossibly difficult LZs in progressively harder approaches. Once you can thread the needle confidently then you can probably become a favourite on the servers.

the best map to learn flying is muttrah. then go over to iron eagle where you have shit terrain to land on.
to have a even harder map to land on is kokan US/canadian main. so small space to land there with a chinook.
remember to land fast and lift of fast when your out from main. you will probably get killed by something thats close by if you dont.

IIRC, most servers have a rule that INS cant shoot inside BLUFOR main (and vica versa).ExeTick wrote:remember to land fast and lift of fast when your out from main. you will probably get killed by something thats close by if you dont.

The most important thing about becoming good is learning from your mistakes so don't be afraid to make them.

Fly away
A few tips:
- Your heli, your rules. Only fly where you feel it is safe. Remember AA-locks.
- Uneven terrain? Hover close to ground and have INF jump off.
- Stay in base when not flying missions. Do not joyride.
- Listen to requests. Read chat.
- Got none to trans, maybe mortars need supplies?
- Do not always fly straight towards drop/pickup marker.
Lycka till / Good luck

It's not about that, it's about not hitting the razor-wires or other vehicles.Mouthpiece wrote:IIRC, most servers have a rule that INS cant shoot inside BLUFOR main (and vica versa).

Re: Can I fly now?
1.Can you drop a crate reliably into an exact garden or on a roof in Muttrah?
2.Can you land the BH on Iron Eagle without damaging it 75% of the time?
3.Can you hover low enough on mountainous terrain to let guys jump out?
4.Can you land quickly enough following a low fast approach to not expose yourself too much?
5.Is your internet stable enough to not get frequent 'lag spikes'?
6.Do you have the patience to take the long safe route?
7.If you're trans SL can you communicate with inf SL's via mumble SL any extra info?
If you answer honestly yes to these I'd be happy to go with you?.
I can't do all this so I don't fly....

Almost no one does, besides, the invisible walls are usually outside the map, and you're not supposed to fly there.Daniel wrote:8. Do you know EVERY invisible wall on EVERY map in PR:BF2 ?

Re: Can I fly now?
Well, I got blown up completely out of nowhere once in a clan-battle on Silent Eagle, flying the Havoc in low altitude, south-east part of map, between the trees, suddenly BOOOOOM!, "DEAD"... -.-saXoni wrote:Almost no one does, besides, the invisible walls are usually outside the map, and you're not supposed to fly there.Daniel;1766937 wrote:8. Also with trans chppr (cow) along the northern border of map, JUST where the borderline is, (I was passenger, NOT piloting) and BOOOOOM! "DEAD"... -.-
