[Help] After tutorial 2 CTD

Post by johan19 »

Hello,

I have been doing those tutorials for mapping ...
After tutorial 2 (Creating a Basic Level - BFEditor) it says you can go out and try the map you created however when i load this map, it just loads until 50-60%

Can someone help me out?

Are you loading the map in PR or vBF2?

I load it in vanilla bf2

Should i put My_level folder in PR/levels map ?
And start with PR .97?

What mod are you loading when starting bfeditor? If you make the map for vbf and then load it in vbf, there shouldnt be a problem for all i know (not much, really :D ).

"Set-up
In order to follow along with this tutorial, you will need some sort of basic terrain. You may either create your own following the steps in ?Battlefield 2 Modding Tutorial 1 - Creating a Basic Terrain? or using ?My_Level? included with this document.
If you want to use the level ?My_Level?, place it in Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\levels.
Once you have installed the file or created your own terrain, we are ready to begin working on the level."

this is what is said in the beginning of tut 2. So i placed it there ... I think I must start BF2 to try the map... but it crashes...
(when i put it in PR level folder it crashes aswell)

It crashes when reaching 62% if that might help

no putting it in PR will only complicate things, causing more ctds due to the map not being setup for PR.

You need to load up your map in windowed mode. Clone your vBF2 shortcut and then right click, properites on your new shortcut and change fullscreen 1 to fullscreen 0 at the end of the Target line box.

Then run the shortcut, load your map and see if you get an error. If you do post it here (ctrl+c on the error window will copy the error text, then paste it here)

I used this tutorial and got the same problem (although crash on join game), so searched around on the internet, a solution that worked for me was, don't use "Save All" as the tutorial says to, as this saves the undergrowth and overgrowth (and other things) which you have not created in the tutorial. For some reason it crashes the game if you do this.

A fix is to:
*Not use Save All when creating the map (only use Save which automatically selects what has changed thus what needs to be saved)
*Add in some Undergrowth and Overgrowth.

Any more details?

Also imma simply quote a earlier post of mine
Run the game in windowed mode and then post the error message.

To run PR in windowed mode, right click on the PR icon and select Properties. Under Target (cant remember was it Target or Start In so I might be wrong) and to the address add the following:

+menu 1 +fullscreen0 + szx ### +szy ### (replace the # with the resolution you want to launch the game with)

For example:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen1 + szx 800 + szy 600

Here the game shall launch in windowed mode with 800x600 resolution

there is no GamePlayObjects.con in the game mode / layer folder for your map.

Make sure your running the correct game mode and layer for the one you made it for, most likely conquest 64.

That explains it then.

For the map to be loaded in without immediately crashing needs to have at least 1 layer with a CP and spawns for both teams
