Sometimes you may not even need flares. Not sure if it is an error in the game or what but the SA-7 will miss 9/10 times if you do that quickly enough, requires you to be above about 350m though. Works best with Kiowas. However, if you attempt this and the enemy is using a Stinger you are dead.
dont trust shwedor, hes a noob. i kill him all the time

In a jet if you get locked, go vertical. 1 you get out of range quicker and 2 the flares are between you and the missile. If its from another aircraft drop the thrust pull up and do tight turns while dropping flares most of the time the other guy flies right past as your loosing speed faster than he is and the flares are spread over the sky by doing the turns.

Jets don't do tight turns in PR. If you get an enemy jet behind you in this game you are dead, unless you happen to be in a Eurofighter or Tornado which simply move quicker than the missiles. I have never seen a person infront of me in a jet live long enough to lose speed and let me blow past him, if I see it and it is infront of me, it is dead quite simply because the jet's missiles don't miss.

I haven't played PR in a long time but from the last time ive played a few things were missing or incorrect.

Since modern attack chopper have all kinds of systems to block and detect lasers and heatseakers and whatnot. I think its fair to say that the attack choppers in PR are indeed weak vs AA. Sure AA is meant to kill them. But the attack chopper is also made to stop it from that.

For example the flares do not work as they should against heatseekers. They will pass through them instead of proximity explode near them as they would with the chopper. There was a fix for this but was not tested as far i as i know. Rhino had some ideas about it making some kind of invisible shield around the flare that would trap the missile in it. Making it explode. I think if that would actually be used in the game it will have a massive impact.

Then there is also the fact that scale isnt perfect in the game. The choppers are pretty much always in danger as soon as they take off because of the map limits and the view distance.

If countermeasures are going to have their efficiency significantly boosted (as per Rhino's idea above) then there shouldn't be a warning when the helicopter gets locked on, only when the missile is launched at it.

AFAIK, it's impossible to tell the aircraft that a missile has been launched. You can only get either the searching or painting phase from the Refractor engine.

Yes, as I posted earlier it is possible to fire the FIM-92A without a lock and still score a hit almost every time. The pilot will not hear a lock tone usually. The FIM-92A user must remember to lead the targets. (MANPADS version)

J10 will do a pretty good job at tight turns, and trust me you can dodge and come out alive whilst having enemy jet on your tail.

thats not true: when u see the enemy jet behind u before u are getting locked->start popping flares every 2 sec. then u have one minute to escape (he cant lock u with flarecover)
Playing PR since .756

I actually once had an enemy jet avoiding my missile using a jet. Said jet was on my team. Good thing it was on a training server.

EDIT: Well, it looks like I won't be posting in a while, see post count.

AAs are pretty good, with maybe some slight changes required. And I love my piloting, they are scary, and will hurt you, especially closer in, but they can also be avoided, and dodged through intel and experience. If you are willing to risk it, you can still go in AA hot area for CAS, not hit the AA and come back out alive, sure sometimes you will die but its a game so here is the place to take risks.

Because it will be way too easy to evade the missiles.

Imo, in this game AA is already wonky enough(one time I shot a SA-7 at kiowa flying to the side and it LIVED...I saw explosion right on its tail...).

It lived, but for how long? They usually slowly burn to death if they dont make it back to the base in time.
