How to use flares properly?

Every time I do a bomb run in Kashan desert and get locked on I turn away and start popping flares, but 85% of the time I get killed anyway. Is there any particular way i should be using them to get max protection?

Well if you get locked on you have already failed really, try to remove such an incident

Kill the AA before it kills you. You won't have to use flares then.

pop flares when entering a hot zone, just as pilots do that IRL. there are usually ideal locations for AA to be used. and it is best to think about wherethose areas will be and pop flares as you enter them as a preventative measure. In real life flares don't always break a lock so catch that lock before it catches you.

When you do use flares angle upward as it will keep the flares in the air longer/they will go farther, make sure to keep your flares between you and your engager. Other then that practice breaking locks/do as said above for the most part. Minus bills.
