PR:BF2 in Eyefinity works

Post by Cushing63 »

There are Pros and Cons (depending on what kits you are using) to playing at 5760x1080 resolution, but playing PR:BF2 in Eyefinity has to be experienced.

For me, it was just a few clicks of the mouse.
Menus, text, map views, are distorted, but just an annoyance.
HUD's are distorted (HUGE), but doesn't affect play.
Things like depth perception, sense of speed, terrain will require you to relearn in Eyefinity.
50% reduction in vertical field of vision
20% increase in horizontal field of vision, but it seems magnified and panoramic at the same time.
Seeing details is much easier (don't expose the tip of your knee or elbow).
Flying Choppers is AWESOME! (even if landing is harder)
Close combat is harder, until you get used to the reduced vertical vision.

The most disconcerting thing about Eyefinity was the vertigo I felt from the immersive experience. Once I learned to turn my head (to see left and right), instead of using my mouse, the vertigo subsided.

I've already posted on our clan's website. If there's enough interest, I can move it to the public side of our forums or re-post it somewhere here.

See you on the battlefield

Sorry about the quality. The color seems off, but these were taken from my phone. The actual in-game video looks better than what you see. I'm get some vid once I try that widescreen fixer.

I'd call hax on that streched blur when using 3 optics ( :D ), but those photos form the top of the roof are quite immersive, it looks really great. Hope i could get let alone one HD monitor :P

Thanks guys.
To be honest, I read all the posts on various sites about PR not working in Eyefinity so I had given up. I even messaged the "one guy" who supposedly got it working - no answer.
One morning, I accidentally opened PR while my PC was in Eyefinity mode and for the hell of it, I checked the in-game video resolution and I saw 5760x1080 and ran with it. Then, I played with the settings to see what would make PR crash.

That's how easy it was. DOH!

I can see your point about "hack". I opened a thread elsewhere regarding HUD being streched and if a developer responded, I was gonna mention the other "advantages" to Eyefinity.

But....if you actually play the game in Eyefinity, there are severe trade-offs in the loss of Vertical field of vision. I'm an infantry guy. Don't like to fly or be in armor.

* Close combat is SO much harder. If you look at eye level and turn a corner, you will never see the guy, prone, up to 10 feet away (guesstimating). If you're looking down, you get nailed by a shooter 5 feet away.
* landing choppers is more difficult (imo).
* looking skyward is more difficult due to the loss of fov (AA, tow, armor....).
* depth perception is altered. Everything looks slower
* need to relearn nade distances. Doesn't look like you can throw a nade as far either.
* I suffered from Vertigo, initially. I actually felt nauseated too. Still do, on occasion. Especially when running down several flights of stairs.

Anyway, here is a video I uploaded. I'm a noob to the whole uploading things so....Sorry, no audio.

And Xambone, I realize my mic was stuck open, but (mute) don't kick me from vent if I'm flying. It glitched my keyboard and I had no control over the cobra. :D
