No one did. The post you quoted was about recent launched games not being able to "kill" PR.

Not the game play or the devoted players, never. But since you mentioned fanbase, if PR had as big fanbase as BF3 everything would be much more easier.
It would speed up development, improvements, excitement to play...
So in the end it's the people playing that keeps a game going. When PR players are gone so will PR be too or at least significantly drop it's development process leading to an unplayable game. I'm speaking in a future mindset.

On your note about PR having BF3's playerbase, I believe it won't make things easier. It will make things harder since BF3 is a casual game meant for casual players. The BF3 playerbase is not wanting teamwork/covering etc like we do in PR. If more players come, more dumbasses will come/griefers/people playing it like BF3/COD etc. ruining the gameplay for the hardcore veterans of PR. Quality of players over quantity is what I believe is PR's strongpoint. It might not be as popular as BF3, but it's focus of gameplay/teamwork/realism is what wins me over.

Map packs and mini mods usually point towards a decline in the mods life cycle, not the other way around.

PR is getting old. There has been no really "new" additions to the game. PRV is just normal PR with new skins, nothing truly new or innovative. Insurgency is the same old thing, systematic hunting of unknown caches or the C4'ing of known caches, boring. The players have yet to see a truly "new" addition, nothing to complement the insurgency and AAS game modes. This whole mod, after playing for 5+ years, ends up being nothing but a repetition of the same game plans time and time again, because after 5+ years we know that they work the best and will work 99% of the time. And until the players see a new gamemode or a lot of really cool new features, the population will continue to decline out of pure boredom. I don't care HOW devoted you are, you will eventually get bored out of your mind if you continue to play the same game over and over and over for years. Simply giving players a new APC which is really no different than the older APC's simply won't cut it. NEWWWW gamemodes PLEAAASE! Or at least significantly revamp the current gamemodes quickly and often.

This. And I can say for sure that I'll be coming back because it turns out that Diablo 3 has no replay value at all. Still play Dayz somewhat.

People said that the player population would magically rebound after BF3 also. I have yet to see a large player base return. PR is being left behind, there has been NOTHING new. PRV offered nothing NEW. PR had appeal because of its insurgency gameplay back when the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were extremely intense, but then insurgency showed that it had no replay value. Once you learn all the caches there it becomes boring. AAS is no different than any other capture the flag game.

That's not entirely true. I remember 2 months after skyrim and bf3 were released, there was about 8-12 full PR servers on weekends, 3-6 full on weekdays, roughly. Same dynamic is happening now due to Diablo 3 and Dayz mod. But overall, I believe the population is declining slowly. And that's to be expected, happens with everything. At least it had a good run.

But, I wonder if someone is still working on PR mod. Seems kind of quiet around here.

.96 was not that big on the whole - you got the Panther CLV, some extra polish, and Shijia (at the expense of Wanda Shan) - and that was nearly a year ago now.

The time PR development declined in speed and stayed low after was when they announced PR2.
So lets hope.

But you have to see many are on BF3 servers today? There are around 300 players on PR now.

Well, I can't really confirm the player decline from my point of view, because I started playing no full two weeks ago ;-)

With a little bit advertising in different forums you can already raise the playership by a noticeable amount, I did it a few eeks ago with Soldner - Secret Wars, which got reworked by the community and released as free download as "Community Edition"... and then, in one of the topics I made, someone said "Pfff... go and try Project Reality, THAT's realistic warfare with infantry and vehicles."

Well, I tried it and he was 100% right.

Though Soldner does not try to be realistic, it's rather arcadey but still has some depth in it, so I wouldn't call it an arcade game. It's... well... different

Fragmented community......Rules like "mumble don't work for you?? GTFO of my server"being the norm.

New sound mod for this mod.You have a server that normally had 60 players on but now 30 prefer the sound mod =2 servers with 30 people on (underpopulated for this mod) so you just play a different game.
