Kodiak's Art Dump

Post by -kodiak- »

So a few years ago now I made the SVD for bf2 :P R and then headed off to school to learn 3d. I have been lurkin around PR forums ever since and glad that there are still at least a couple servers full almost all the time :)

Anywho, down to business... i'm makin an mk16 witha bunch of goodies. I wasn't aiming at 100% realism but something close enough to look good from a 1p camera. and what better place to get realism critiques than from a realism mod forum.

Here's what i have right now. this is without any SUBd

to anyone who remembers me and wants to check out my portfolio now http://jeffroussakis.wordpress.com/gallery/

Not that I know anything about 3D-modeling, but that looks pretty darn sweet! :)

Think I saw this on Polycount a little while back. :p

Looks good! Need some SubD shots to really see what it looks like though.

thanks guys for the great feedback.
@chuc - hey man, been a long time. I'm thinkin about it. I have some projects and freelance work still eating up most of my time. I'm certain i can do some PR stuff from time to time but right now it's portfolio building :)

@karambaitos - what's a rear post?

i'll add the update in a few mins here. Just some max screen grabs :)

Great work, love your portfolio so far. Been trying to learn how to model the past few days, I understand how to use the tools somewhat but still need to review all of that ****. Would love to see ya work on PR maybe in the future. Keep it up.

i need some help you fine men/women.

I modelled the rear post iron sight thing but not sure if it's the right one. there's so many reference images on google that are airsoft and i don't know which one is right.

Can someone find me some reference images of an eotech and acog 4x and the rear post that are actually used in war and not just airsoft ****?

Any links would be helpful and very useful.

looks sweet, I'm pretty positive a lot of other bf2 mod teams would be interested in this when it's finished
also good to know to whom we owe the excellent svd, always found it a lovely piece of work!

Those are some nice sights.
I'd watch out for rounding every single edge off though, I'm sure there are hard edges in some places.

Thanks chuc. I chamfer the edges so that it bakes better. Also i keep in mind that if you have really hard edges then the falloff really only shows when the camera is really close to the gun. But if i keep my edges softer then the detail will be kept at a distance and the normals will work for a 3p view as well

Looks and sounds good! :)
The edges seem nicely rounded indeed.

Check the back of that EOTech sight, I can see quite a few differences in shape between the ref you included and your rendition.

Looking good. Always nice to see more high polies. Edge size looks pretty good as well.
