Crashes, CIA, Hardcore, Sisu

Post by Vicious302 »

There's a been an average of a crash every 5-8 hours on these servers, mainly CIA and Hardcore. I know this is a hosting issue but is there anything being done to help these guys out? The admins, mods, devs, etc. regulate the servers lisencsing and I think the requirement for the server specs need to be revisisted and maybe increased. Who knows how many players were losing from the mod because they simply don't have the zen like patience required on top of the patience already required to play this mod. If the PR team could drop a bomb like letting the server owners know that the 128 code will definatly be included in the next release, it might be incentive for them to upgrade their server hosting, or an excuse for you to release new specs for the 128 servers and they can comply if they want a 128 server.

I am pretty sure, that if this is needed they discuss it on their administrator forums. their is enough interaction between DEVs and server owner on these forums from what I hear. So don't worry ;)

Crashes and PR live together. Also remember that hosting a 64+ plus server costs about 3 to 4 times more then a normal server.

the level of seriousness needs to be turned up a notch, it's been going on for way too long, only "god" knows how many players have been lost back to vanilla games. If there servers are crashing then maybe the 128 is only 3 to 4 times the cost of a server that crashes but maybe only twice the cost of one that doesn't and if you can get twice the players and they stick around because it doesn't crash, maybe there could be some donations to keep the game from crashing. at this point who is going to donate to a server that crashes every 3 maps, Nobody in their right mind.

I am presently working on a re-install of CIA's server as well as changing the security settings.

You may have some truth to your original post, insofar as to make pre-configured server setups for admins to simply download. With ADF, Modmanager 2.0, and anything else that can be pre-configured to reduce the amount of guess work for Server Admins. twould be nice.

Servercrashes are usually not due to bad serverhardware.

Most of the communities/clans out there got pretty decent machines.

i can speak for some of the community when I say that we'll do whatever it takes to support our servers if they can do whatever it takes to not make them crash. ESPECIALLY if they go 128.

You sure? Not everyone likes the 128 servers.

Crashes are because PR is a mod, and has more bugs or whatever compared to BF2. so thats why pr servers crash more often than normal servers

I would be very interested to know what causes the crashes...

Has the PR team ever done some debugging on the crash issues? Of course the big, obvious and reproducible ones have all been fixed in patches, but what about those random start-of-game ones (dead screen for all players on map load, just randomly 5min-1hour into the game, etc, etc)?

I realize the sporadic nature of them makes it rather unpleasant to track, but I wonder if a really crude write-ahead debug log/buffer of the last 30 script commands executed would yield some insight to the various server hiccups. The debugging server-side scripts/versions could be run on some select, popular servers and the logs could be submitted to the devs after any crashes. Naturally they'd be basically encrypted/obfuscated with a key that the devs know so that those pesky server operators couldn't get their hands on the PR code :-P

I personally feel like the crashes only really started around .9, but that is just my personal opinion.

Servers crashed plenty before 0.9.

true, quite many CTDs and such as right now, but i guess (hope) this is all related to the pb problems.

tried starting a match today and it took me 5 times to finally make it. 5 times CTD in a row... thats actually a new personal record.

Aww shit, I didnt think you'd take it seriously. I feel like Homer...Simpson, after he slaps everyone around challenging them to duels.

I guess that makes you the Texan who accepts.

Too bad you're stuck in Germany, HA!

Do you seriously want a cookie?

Personal CTDs [crash to desktop] are your own computer's issues... that's not necessarily a PR thing.

What I was referring to (and I believe the thread's purpose as well) is about when the whole server crashes and the PR server process has to be restarted.
