BF2 PR Freezing every 15 min

Post by theiceman »

Win 7 64 bit
8gb ram
hd 6790
asus mobo

It freezes for about 20 seconds then black screens for a second then comes back as usual.

This problem only happens for PR. I play BF3 and other games and my computer can play them for hours with no problem. This is not that big of an issue for me, but it is keeping me from flying or gunning tanks. All my drivers are updated. IDK what to do next...

Do you have Intel i5 /i7 processor with turbo feature? IF its enabled that might cause occasional stuttering when it switches frequencies, so disable it if possible.

Also watch your temperatures of processor, mainboard, and gpu while playing and make sure its not overheating.

I have an AMD 955 x4 so no i dont have that.

however after doing more research I have found that I cannot update catalyst to 12.4 it is stuck at 12.3. I try to install and it says it completed without error but when i restart it says i need to update to 12.4 again. I tried uninstalling all drivers and fresh install with same results. What do i do?

EDIT: and i checked temps, it is not that stays around 50c-55c at all times

I used that tool to wipe clean of all past drivers. there were some Nvidia drivers that were present. I wiped that clean, but now when I install amd catalyst 12.4 everything installs correctly except the actual driver. it says "INF file not found". I am looking at fixes on the internet but none are really making sense to me. What do I do?

Which tool you used exactly and which Nvidia drivers you removed? Have you ever had Nvidia graphic card?

What is your mainboard exact model? You dont just run this tool select everything and wipe it all clean. I though you'd know better.

Cannot install CCC 12.4? - Overclockers Forums

Looks like lots of people are having issues with it, so better stick with older version for now.

I used DriverSweeper_3.2.0. And they were just some random drivers, Before this card I did have a9500gt in so it was probly left over from that.

asus m4a78t-e

and I didn't delete any registry files.

and I have been googling this problem all morning and I keep finding nothing

Its ok. I just thought you removed some of your mainboard drivers thats why I asked for your mainboard model.

12.4 is too buggy to be used, I suggest you stay with 12.1 until they release stable version.

Before you install new driver do some searching as it does not mean that new version is automatically better. ATI drivers have long history of crappy releases.

Check device manager and see if there is exclamation mark on your graphic card. Download 12.1 and install it, or 12.3 if you prefer.

From the start, I'm not sure where to start on this problem.

I'd advise trying this to allow BF2 and PR to use more than 2GB of RAM for the texture files:

Use the B) Windows 7 x64 instructions
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... b-ram.html

What quality level of audio do you have set for PR? Might want to lower it.

If you don't already use it, IObit Gamebooster3 might free up some CPU cycles, Game Booster 3 Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance

To properly diagnose what is either using 100% of your CPU cycloes, 100% of your GPU cycles, 100% of your GPU memory, or 100% of your RAM, during the freezes,
My best suggestion would be to download ProcessMonitor from Sysinternals , install it, run it in background when playing PR, set the PRocMon option to save the log files. At the moment your PR goes black, note the time, then go and review the ProcMon logs.
Process Monitor

Some running background process in those logs will show it using 100% of the above mentioned resources. That will be your culprit.
