FPS problem

Post by ryan_ace_10 »

I updated my bios the other day and since ive been experiencing fps drops when looking towards the central area of maps. Before I updated the game would run pretty well flawlessly if my memory serves me correct at 99 fps, now it drops as low as 40.

Mobo - Gigabyte z68xp-ud4 (award bios F6, updated from F2)
Ram - 8gb (cant remember brand)
gpu - gtx 580
cpu - i7 2600k
hdd - 1tb wd black (2 partitions, defragmented)

Hello Ryan. There is nothing strange in FPS being quirky in PR. Might be you havent noticed before but its not stable at some number it never was. 40 FPS is still good and playable so I woulldnt worry about it, but if you want you can check few things to be sure.

First thing is to defragment your hard drive, and make sure you have at least 10% free space on each partition. Meaning if you have HDD of 500GB and its split to two partitions, you will have two partitions of 250GB so on each should 25GB be free.

Check your mainboard settings in BIOS. After BIOS update you should immediately enter BIOS after reboot and choose Load Setup Defaults or Load Optimized Settings, depending on manufacturer. Go though settings and make sure all is set as it was prior to flash after that.

Test your RAM for errors. Best way is to leave just one stick in case you have more and use Memtest to boot your PC and test every stick separately. Make sure to run at least one pass on each stick.

Next thing is to make sure your PC is dust free and is not overheating. There are various programs that you can use to check temperatures, and example would be GPU-Z, Speedfan, AIDA64, HWinfo...etc ( AIDA64 is not freeware, its trial )

yeah , it's strange , I sold my old amd 4870 and got a brand new amd 6970 and I am getting low fps , 20-30 fps in city and 35-40 in forests . I can run bf3 at high settings with no problems but a mod for bf 2 seems to get my PC on it's knees , too bad since this is my favourite game .

If you changed you graphic card, or updated drivers, go to My Documents > Battlefiled 2 > Mods > bf2 > cache and delete anything you find below that point including folders.

Make sure your game is not running when you do this. Next time you join MP game, you will see message "Optimizing shaders..." and hopefully it will run better after that.

Also few settings might cause this in CCC ( Catalyst Control Center ) which I'm not familiar of ( I use Nvidia ) but will search and report back.

Man , I updated my gfx driver , I did all the things you said , some guy told me to do those, I even reinstalled my windows but nothing worked , it's nice to see that people with better PC-s have problems too since that means it's not a hardware problem . Also ty for looking at those CCC settings , hope you reply quicly . A lot of thanks
My PC:
Amd Phenom 2 955 3.2 ghz x4
8gb ram ddr -1333
1 tb- Seagate
MSI 790FX-AMB
AMD 6970 -2gb
As I said it's nice to see that it's not a AMD problem , because I was already thinking about selling my PC to get a Intel + Nvidia based one .
Sorry for thread - jacking

are you running any other applications besides PR when you play

try this for CCC

1 start
2 All programs
3 Catalyst Control Center
4 CCC - advanced
5 ATI Overdrive tab.
6 Play PR

Uncheck Enable ATI Overdrive

also if above does work try

Not to run PR.exe or other shortcuts in any compatibility modes

I believe it is a memory leak problem or something like that

Did what you said, almost the same thing, also when I get 30-40 fps there is some kind of stutter , the gameplay is not smooth at all. Also , if I am in scope mode I get 60 + fps no matter where I look and what I see and the game is very very smooth.
Also It does not matter if I play on high or low settings , I get the same FPS so something else it's the problem .
Plz help me :D
3rd edit :
I installed AMD SYSTEM MONITOR and it shows that my card dosen't go past 20-30 percent load .

I found the fix ... I installed the first drivers that came for my videocard , the ones that had the old catalyst , 10.12 and now it's working like a charm , 60 fps all time (v-sync activated).
NVM , it just made it better , on maps like Muttrah , Fallujah (with big cities) I still get low fps 25-30 and it stutters like hell , again if smb has a fix plz tell me guys .
