Bot team assignments?

Post by DevilDog165 »

Hey guys, I did a search around here and couldn't find anything about this. I only play SP/co-op mode and was wondering if there is a way to make sure certain bots end up on certain teams? I changed bot names to reflect guys I was in the Marine Corps with and it sucks when they end up as some insurgent.

Also if I can't assign bots to teams, how are they chosen? Does it just go in order on the botnames file?

Thanks.

I dont think there is any pattern there and its all random. Possible they join in alphabetical order but cant claim it.

There is no mechanism cause nobody ever thought of that and I dont think anybody will start now to make AI more organized.

Yeah I was thinking it is completely random, which is no fun. Thanks though.

My computer sucks is the biggest reason lol. But I have kids and have to pause the game a ton of times just to get through 1 game, that can't happen in MP. I might give it a go though at night when I get some time.

Dude, that's motivation. I never even thought about doing that...then again I was an air winger.

You should give the online a try. Me and a few guys are playing tonight. If you have Xfire, add me to your friends list (name is mangeface) and come play. All of us are understanding, family is first. If you have to take care of your kids, we'll wait or move on and leave a guy with you and you can catch back up.

And welcome to the forums. A lot of fun can be had here. :-P

Yeah all my friends from highschool were in the Corps too so it is funny when they stop by and play for a bit and they see their name as a bot, or General Mattis lmao.

I was an air winger too lol. CH 46s

Understandable. If you do ever get the chance, jump into a server, join a squad (grab a plain rifleman kit unless otherwise directed by the squad leader) and tell them you're kind of new. Most players will be happy to help familiarize you with the game mechanics and MP gameplay in general.

DevilDog, i have a better idea! Get your guys to play PR also, then you all join multiplayer and be in a squad. More fun, you are really playing with your guys, two flies in one swat. Not to mention that you would learn the game together with them, so in time you would know eachother ingame like you knew eachother in the corps. Though yeah, family is understandably something not to keep aside. After you put your kids to bed, lock n load. ;)

What about upgrading your computer? In US its pretty cheap, you get a kickass rig from $500-$1000

I actually have a friend or two wanting to play, just trying to get them set up. Others are sadly not with us anymore and others are just not into video games. I will do what I can to recruit players for this game though as it is hands down the most realistic game of its type I have played. Takes a little getting used to the whole going blind thing during firefights, but it is what it is.

I am actually saving now for an alienware laptop. My wife wants a mac so what ever I spend I am sure she will spend about the same lol.

Hehe, that "going blind" effect is just suppresion, as without it, everybody would be rambo, and this way it prevents you to shoot back accurately most of the time. Though experienced players can succesfully ignore it most of the time and shoot back accurately.

And why alienware laptop? If you dont intend moving it around, a desktop is far cheaper with better hardware. Ofcourse, if you need it mobile, go for it by all means.

I am learning to get around the suppressed effect. Like Mick said to Rocky, aim for the one in the middle lol.

Yeah basically I need the computer to be mobile. Would prefer a desktop at some point, but no room and the need for mobility rules that out right now.

Dude, DO NOT go Alienware. So many better options. Like MSI or ASUS. MSI has some really good gaming laptops out that are a way bigger bang for the buck.

Newegg.com - PCs & Laptops, Laptops / Notebooks, Laptops / Notebooks, MSI

Sorry, don't mean to highjack this thread form the original intent, but I don't want to see a fellow Marine make a bad choice.

Highjack away man, I can use all the help I can get when getting a new laptop, especially if it saves me some cash. Gonna check out that link now.

+1 on the MSI or ASUS laptop, Alienware would keep up the neighbors with all the lights on those things. Along with them being extremely expensive for what you get.

Haha, no shit. They have more lights than a rich person's house during Christmas.

If you want a few good suggestions, I suggest these.

This is the one I'm going to get when I can get enough pennies scrounged together to afford it:
Newegg.com - MSI G Series GT700NC-008US Notebook Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 17.3" 12GB Memory 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M

I'm also going to put an SSD in it for the OS and a few of the games I play, but I think it would be a little out of the price range you may be looking at, but this is the one.
Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3B/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (Upgrade Bundle Kit)

You could throw a 120GB or 128GB SSD in it for the OS and it would be killer. And for the price of the MSI I just listed and a 120GB or 128GB SSD it'll be cheaper and outperform the hell out of an Alienware any second of the year. But if you plan on that route, make sure to get it before you install anything, and I mean ANYTHING to the HDD or else it would get flashed to the SSD. And with SSDs you want to keep them to under 85% of their capacity to allow the drive room to move files around to keep down on the read/write wear and extend the life of the drive.

And here's a couple of others:
This one has a smaller screen, 8GB of RAM instead of 12 and a lesser graphics card (although it's still a GTX 600 series which means it'll rock any game on the market) and you'd spend a few hundred less bucks on it.
Newegg.com - MSI G Series GE60 0ND-042US Notebook Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 15.6" 8GB Memory DDR3 1600 750GB HDD 7200rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M

Either one of those 2 MSI's will rock your world. The ASUS laptops will be good also, but in similar price range you'd be paying for the name, not the computer. I'll put one that would be comparable to the one's I listed.
Newegg.com - ASUS G75 Series G75VW-NS71 Notebook Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 17.3" 12GB Memory DDR3 1600 500GB HDD 7200rpm DVD?R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M

With that, you get the same graphics card, but a smaller HDD and the computer itself weighs as much as an MTV (okay, not really but I used to have an ASUS G53 and even with a 15.6" screen it was heavy as shit).

I would suggest this its fairly cheap and has powerful specs

Newegg.com - Acer Aspire V3-771G-9875 Notebook Intel Core i7 3610QM(2.30GHz) 17.3" 6GB Memory 750GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M

but if you are looking for some powerful stuff

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=4938

the 675 is better than 670 by about 20-30%

ifyou really want aliendware I found a pretty good deal on tigerdirect
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=4938

granted its not 3rd generation i-7

good luck

Keep in mind that the video card on that one is for multimedia, not gaming. It has some pretty good specs though and should be able to handle PR:BF2 and others on medium settings though.

Just wanted to let you all know that I tried playing some MP today. I lost connection before I could enter the game on one server and then ctd before I could join the game on the next server. I don't think my internet connection is good enough, even if my comp can handle it. I shall see what I can do.

I was surprised though that at around 1 or 2 pm est there were a ton of players online. Awesome to see that.

What is your internet speed? Are you running wifi or ethernet cable? If you have wifi, your wireless card may not be getting enough bandwidth to maintain a connection. Check up on both of those, mainly your internet speed. I used to play PR just fine on a 5MB speed. So it may just be the hardware on your current computer.
