The M134 "minigun" fires a 7.62x51 NATO round, with six barrels at a devastating rate of fire, exceedingly 2000 rounds a minute. It's a brilliant light weapon to mount on vehicles for suppression, anti infantry, or anti light vehicle purposes. unfortunately this is not reflected in PR.. at all. The minigun is mounted on the CAS huey, of the vietnam expansion, and the Uh-60 in standard project reality. It's underpowered, an unrealistic depitction, and uniquely erroneous on both vehicles.
For the CAS huey, im sure this was just an oversight. I havent had an opportunity to test the actual projectile damage, but the rate of fire is it's problem. It fires like 100RPM, and there's two of them. Bump it up to a whopping 4000+rpm to give that seat any purpose. Considering the gun's inability to turn, and minimal splash radius it would be ridiculous to assert that it would become OP, it would serve as some excellent suppression and saturation fire for rocket runs. Please fix this.
Secondly is the blackhawk's weapon. I was door gunning in one recently, and don't get me wrong you can get a little work done in it, but it's just silly sometimes. I've witnessed unarmoured infantry taking 3 hits directly from the weapon and they were still walking, and it takes far too many rounds to destroy a light unarmoured vehicle such as a technical. I understand that a suggestion to buff the blackhawk's minigun is a little controversial with the more conservative members of the community, but I feel as if it improves the game. Firstly, it is realistic, simply put it does not take 4 .308 rounds to bring down a human, and it's totally inconsistent with other weapons that fire the same round. I also feel as if it wouldnt really ruin balance in any way. There are many counters to the vehicle, and it takes quite a bit of coordination and aiming ability to be effective, it's not a one-mannable weapon that can just bowl people.
Yes, I know "gameplay over realism", however realism and gameplay over gameplay. Using a blackhawk for air support is a tactic that helps the team achieve victory realistically, it would not be overpowered, and based on experience all trans pilots give transport, and supplies as well as providing air support. The belligerents are also unlikely to waste the asset, as the blackhawk is well armoured enough. There's no reason besides blatant unabashed assumptions that "b-but it would only be used for CAS!!" to at least not test this.
Finally, a sight for the blackhawk's, and perhaps all armed trans chopper's doorguns would be really appreciated, it's annoying to operate otherwise.
thank you for reading.

Re: weak miniguns
I kind of agree with this, I'd find it interesting to see if a pilot would be willing to endanger his aircraft by strafing simply to help out the guys he just dropped off. But to see something like this we'd indeed need a buff of the weapon itself.

I see. If they have sights and appropriate bullet damage they'll be an improvement.Stealthgato wrote:The Black Hawk will have it's M134s replaced with M240s.
Though to my knowledge the brits, americans, and a few others put guns all over their chinooks, M134s included. Any reasons those have never been implemented?

There are about a dozen threads on that, so no need to ask. The primary reason is because we don't have the models for the weapons.40mmrain wrote:Though to my knowledge the brits, americans, and a few others put guns all over their chinooks, M134s included. UK has M134 (not sure what UK designation is) as standard on their Chinooks along with an M60D on the ramp (surprisingly, as I would have though the GPMG would be compatible). Regular US Army Chinooks seem to fly with 3 x M240D/H; 1 on each side and one on the ramp. 160th SOAR MH-47 Chinooks I have usually seen with 2 x M134 forward windows, 2 x M240D/H aft windows plus another M240D/H on the ramp.

Can't use the M134 as PlaceHolder and forget the ramp gun?

Re: weak miniguns
Pretty sure the M134 is a part of the Blackhawk model (which is left over from vBF2) and therefore unable to be used/low quality.
Man you wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one of those 160th SOAR Chinooks. If they have 5 guns, does that mean they have more crew - or do 2/3 of them man them all?
