Setting for Server to allow/forbidd FOBs/Assets in DoD
As you may know many server forbidds to have FOBs in the DoD of your team to keep the game fair. But some server allows it. So my suggestion is to add a optional option to forbidd FOBs in the DoD of the map. This setting could be choosen by the server admin.
Often I see people building FOBs in the DoD when it's forbidden and it always ends up in a long argument till the FOB gets destroyed.
The only question/problem this idea gave me if it's possible to register if the FOB is placed in the DoD via a phyton script. Since it's possible to register if the FOB is placed to close to the map edge, I assume it's also possible to register the DoD.

There is code that prohibits an FOB within a certain distance of the command post, but we'll have to ask our coders if it's possible for it to check it against the combat area (often called dome of death).

Yes but I also remember that in 0.95 (?) was a code added that prohibits FOBs too close to the map edge. It later got removed for AAS/INS and is only used in CnC.[R-DEV]AFsoccer wrote:There is code that prohibits an FOB within a certain distance of the command post.

Thats a great idea. However I dont think it can be made togleable ( controllable by server admins ), cause there is no mechanism for that. Not that I know of that is, but we still need to see with coders about it.

I was planning to use combat area aka dome of death to provide safe heaven to build firebase for russia in kozelsk south edge of the map. I dont want to put spawn there at start of the map, but they could build it there and then its more or less permanent. Militia can get close enough to bazooka it down or use technical etc, but its more difficult.

Solutions like these are bad for gameplay and players quickly learn how to abuse it. Not to mention confusion for both mortar crews and admins.[R-DEV]Deer wrote:I was planning to use combat area aka dome of death to provide safe heaven to build firebase for russia in kozelsk south edge of the map. 2nd the notion.
If it would be possible to toggle, fine, best case scenario - everybody happy!
If not, I would still be strongly for an implementation of the "DoD-check code" to generally prohibit people of building these Fobs in the first place and therefore freeing up admin time and people could play instead of argue.
If the code isn't possible at all I would still vote for a general rule that disallows it no matter on what server!
I assume the arguments for or against a rule like this are well known and don't need to be discussed here again.

I don't see any reason why it should be impossible to make this toggleable. Kit restriction, vehicle restriction etc. is also toogleable in-game.

Re: Setting for Server to allow/forbidd FOBs/Assets in DoD
I don't see a problem with FOBs in a DoD since usually the DoD is near a command post
the fix to prevent mortars etc in DoD is to have an inverted boat DoD over the top of the base defence DoD.
People get in mortar...you are out of bounds.
I dunno if this can be done server side only though.

I see eye to eye with Rudd on this one, building a FOB in the DoD isn't really the brightest idea but at the same time it can be feasible on certain maps. The only real issue is mortars in the DoD, it doesn't allow the enemy team much chance to fight them and the logistics are easy mode.

no one gets forced to activate this feature. that's why I said it should be optional. It always depends on the server rules. Also would be possible to prohibits certain assets in the DoD (TOW, mortar, etc..)

Neither of those you mentioned are toggleable. There is no way to change it in configs of server. ADMINS CAN NOT CONTROL IT.WeeD-KilleR wrote:I don't see any reason why it should be impossible to make this toggleable. Kit restriction, vehicle restriction etc. is also toogleable in-game.
Neither this what you ask can be made changeable by server configs. Its either same for all or its not there. Pick one.

Re: Setting for Server to allow/forbidd FOBs/Assets in DoD
I think the distance from command post for buildings could be increased, at least that's an easy way to solve it. If it was increased to say, 500m, it would be more in the spirit of what the mortars are supposed to be.
You're not supposed to come 2 feet out of main throw a fob and mortars up, there's supposed to be a remote artillery base.
At least that's my perspective on it.

Right now its 200m. You cant build anything 200m from command post. Thing is that increasing it can make some more problems on smaller maps. What would you do on a 1km map?
By far best one is one that Rudd mentioned. Reversed DOD where you could not get hurt by mortars firing at protected area, but also you could not fire it out.

Re: Setting for Server to allow/forbidd FOBs/Assets in DoD
Some people mentioned the only problem would be the mortars themselves.
Therefore Rudds idea is a good solution as it seems.
thb I can only think of one map but on that the fob itself is a problem - Kokan.
When Taliban have a cache somewhere around the NE part of the map (don't have the minimap on hand right now to check for grids) and US use their fob around the E/F3 area (still inside dod) it is really weird to not be able to take it down by hand cause I can't reach it...while US keeps respawning there and floods the cache area with troops.
And people, pls spare me the "use teamwork to take it down then" comments. I know how to call in mortars on a position. Not the point here imo.
Maybe Rudds idea could be used and in addition Kokan could get its really weird shaped dod altered.
That dod is silly in so many ways...

I have to agree with Kilo, its absolutly unnatural to kill wave after wave instead of flanking and take out the spawnpoint. So it's not only a problem with mortars. So in my opinion there should be no assets in the DOD and if PR takes care of it my life as Admin would be easier one more time.

Is it possible to create a second dummy commandpost with a geometry of a stone?
The stone telling the game he is a commandpost and it is not possible to place something inside of the 200m radius. But looking like a stone without gameplay functions? This stones are placed inside of the DoD.
In operation archer occuring the same problems with mortars in DOD zones.
