Learning to play beyond infrantry

Post by Rapid12 »

Hi all,

I've been enjoying PR for a while now, and apart from the odd helpful dude talking me through the controls of various land vehicles, I've never been able to learn this mod beyond that of an infantry grunt. Even squad leading is a roll I need to learn.

I remember when I first downloaded PR there was a training server, but I no longer see it.

So what I'm asking is how do I go about learning how to use....Mortar, SL, trans helicopters, attack choppers, tanks & apc, gtld binoculars, and most importantly, how to drive the aircraft carrier as I find it's too vulnerable so close to shore.

Serious post btw.

Anyone with a big wing I could take cover under?

Negative, though the carrier comment was clearly a joke.

Ptole, things are easy if you know how, and as yet, I do not. However, I was pretty good on BF2 without joystick, others with joysticks always kicked my ***. Is it recommended to fly with joysticks over mouse and keyboard on PR?

DocPock, thanks for giving me your Xfire, I assume that's an invite to add you? What does Xfire do nowadays? I got it years ago, not had it installed for years and forgot what it does.

While browsing server list I sometimes see locked servers that say they're in training mode, how does one get into such servers?

Xfire is a freeware instant messaging service targeted at gamers, that also serves as a game server browser and has various other features such as taking screenshots, recording video clips, and broadcasting live to other users.

Some of these servers are specifically for clan use. We have a training server at 3dAC but it is used for practices, battle planning, and other things of the sort and thus is locked to keep public players out. Other servers provide players training to fly or use land vehicles. These servers are a great places to learn about the many types of aircraft and land vehicles in PR. Usually the passwords to these servers are found in the server name itself or on their respective host site.

flying is a matter of opinion. some fly with keyboard and mouse, some with keyboard only(me), some with gamepads others with joysticks :P

yes it was an invite mate. xfire is just a IM program most of us here use to communicate outside forums download it here

the locked servers are mostly private clan servers they use for training, some use it regularly some before battles etc.
there are also 1 or 2 dedicated training servers (i know MeRK has one) with modified maps where its easier to master some stuff since you dont disturb the game. coop mode is also used for training.

tl;dr

download xfire
add me: docpock
?????
profit

edit: ObiWan Jedi'd me lol :D

OP: Create your own server and practice flying.

For trans I would place a mark and drop a crate there, circle around and make sure the crate is intact and in a decent spot. Also practice landing in various locations, in between buildings, on top of buildings, & on uneven/rocky surfaces.

For attack chopper, place a mark and practice doing runs w/ rockets.

For jets, practice landing on the run way, doing runs w/ the gatling gun & rockets (A-10). And practice doing dives. Bombs are laser guided (provided the target is lazed) so practice flying over targets.

OP, if you actually need some practice then i recommend you to make a local server and use the RCON spawners to spawn jets/choppers. There was a thread about the command somewhere but cba to search it :P

You don't land on uneven & rocky surfaces. You hover.

Create your own server? Now you've lost me, and confusing me.

Is one allowed to join empty servers and waste assets learning how to use them?

go to youtube and search "prbf2 tutorial". there you will find some helpful videos. also, in this forum there is a "tales from the front" section and then a sub section in it called "in-game tactics and strategies", there you will find lots of helpful information that many pubs often overlook. everything you will ever need to know is in one of the two spots if you're willing to take the time to read and learn and dont just want to be spoon feed.

I am playing this fir over 3 years and the only thing I do is infantry, sometimes I gun either APCS or CAS , but being on your feet offers so much that I am still not done with going infantry. By the way a little tip when playing INS as BLUFOR go EOD for once that is often a relieve from all the hectic firefights.

When it comes to AFVs, just remember that you are nothing more than a mobile direct fire artillery piece, with all the armor of a tin can.

I never thought I would say this; but reading the manual might be a good start? Just scroll through it and read the parts you find interesting.
