Hmm, looks interesting... and definitely better than how the map is right now. Good job, I'm looking forward to trying this out.Rudd wrote:https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f253-v ... ost1786249

Amphibious assault maps are always difficult to balance, especially on the first release. Think about Muttrah (when MEC used to rush Docks and cap out the US), and Beirut (similar issues). But we continue to tweak them until we find the right balance.

Re: Favorite Map that never gets played?
It makes me happy when I read this thread and see how many people actually like the rarely played maps.
But then I play on our server and as soon as we decide to play something special you won't believe how bitchy players get. You get insulted and flamed so much that you really get the impression everybody wants to play muttrah 24/7.
We are playing so many maps so often...why do people instaleave if we come up with Ochamchira, Iron Ridge or Shijia.
So my message to you, if you realize an admin wants to play a rarely played map show your support and assist the admins in making that decision

When server is good and has good admins I usually stay on server no matter what map is played (although in my opinion good server doesn't repeat maps too often except for seeding/late server hours).'[R-DEV wrote:BloodyDeed;1789716']It makes me happy when I read this thread and see how many people actually like the rarely played maps.

Players are bitchy by nature and majority of regulars prefer stick to few, well known maps they are familiar with. See Karkand for example.
Also you have to note that forum community is a bit different from overall community of PR players. There are differences and usually people who come here are more demanding when it comes to certain aspects of game, like teamwork and immerson.
The bitchy players are also usually from clans as they feel they have more rights to demand map and have more precise preferences (a lot of them love air asset maps for example). Also they are "major threat" because when leave then the server population may drop on map change from let's say 60 to 52 in spite of second and usually then other people will leave if server won't fill up quickly. So it's downward spiral.
But that doesn't mean, in my opinion, that there shouldn't be choices for more demanding players and more teamwork oriented servers. Diversity is the key.
I wonder sometimes why people don't like new things, challenges and other joys of PR (like Shijia), yet they love to camp same spots in Muttrah with fixed flag layout that makes me puke, although Muttrah itself is just wonderful map that was desecrated by too much sick, perverted love from community.
For me a phenomenon for some time are server like vBios, where I never played because of language barrier (not many English speakers), yet when I joined once time because they were running Command and Conquer I was amazed of level of teamwork and diversity of map choices. Not to mention CnC being played very often and people understanding mechanics behind the gamemode (and utilizing it ofc, like building emplacements).

I'm pretty sure Pavlovsk would've worked pretty nice with a Muttrah-layer. All flags neutral, and everyone spawns in each team's main base. I've read Rudd's thread though, and it looks promising.[R-DEV]AFsoccer wrote:Amphibious assault maps are always difficult to balance, especially on the first release. Ye, while that was an issue in the first release, when the MEC didn't exploit that the map was pretty balanced in its first release. Just when they did they could basically stop the USMC from stepping ashore, but once the USMC got ashore and capped docks etc, without having to destroy an MEC firebase in the middle of docks it was fair game.
EDIT: one thing I should mention however is that before Muttrah's first release there was quite a bit of full server gameplay/stress testing that was done which the map wouldn't have been so balanced without on its first release.

There are other ways to balance a amphibious assault map rather than that method. TBH its one of my least favorite methods since it doesn't simulate a dug in enemy but most of the other methods wouldn't really work very for Muttrah which is why I didn't use them.

Re: Favorite Map that never gets played?
Muttrah isn't unbalanced at all, and that's definitely due to the layout of the flags. Without an above average USMC team Russia has pretty much won the battle of Pavlovsk Bay before it has even started.[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:There are other ways to balance a amphibious assault map rather than that method. Although you might find your way of choosing the flag-layout on Muttrah unrealistic it definitely worked, and I'm sure the same layout will work great on other maps too.

Re: Favorite Map that never gets played?
My point was there are alternatives to that method that can work just as well in terms of balancing a map

I'd say Iron Eagle. I don't know why people rip on it so much, it is actually very fun to play.

It would be interesting to try Iron Eagle in CnC layout, if it were available.

It can be fun, but often becomes stale. I Just hate when all the obj's are on the bottom of the map.crot wrote:I'd say Iron Eagle. I don't know why people rip on it so much, it is actually very fun to play.
There's been some really fun/entertaining Armor/Air warfare. However due to the spacing of the city/whatoat & thermal infantry easily get picked off, which can be a pain. That's probably why people do not like to play Iron.

Re: Favorite Map that never gets played?
hm.. I never gotten bored on that map even if I was armor or infantry. You just gotta know where to place FOBs with AA and TOW and you're set. But I get what you're saying about it getting stale when the trans get shot down, then it becomes a hassle.SGT.Ice wrote:It can be fun, but often becomes stale.
