Installing Battlefield 2

Post by reozm »

Okay, this might be a bit embarrassing, but I lost the instruction manual for Battlefield 2 and with it, my CD key.

However, I have the hex-based encrypted key from the registry.

Is there any way to install Battlefield 2 with that post-encryption key, or does anyone know how to un-encrypt the key? I haven't played Project Reality for a while and I really want to play it again.

I dont know if there is a way to covert from hex but probably not. There were small apps that were able to do that but they no longer work on Vista/Win7.

What you can do is to export key from the registry and then save it somewhere safe, and when you need it, just import it. Also you must use same paths of previous install.

Ie. C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\ < if that was where game was installed before, and you got its key exported then you must install game there again for it to work.

Small application which can read CD Key from registry. I haven't tried it but give it a go, and let us know. Also he mentioned it may not work on windows 7.

What I would suggest is find a keygen online, use a fake key. Install it, patch up to 1.5 properly, and then just paste in your original key hash to the created [hashed] registry value. That *might* work :)

I tried it with some random key found online. Since I had to reinstall it one time because of a driver issue and a system restore, it worked the first time but not the second.

This didn't work with my hex code for some reason.

Thats not going to work with HEX. That tool will read your CD-Key from your registry so you can save it. But if you reinstalled Im afraid your key is lost.

Only way is to try and add it manually in the registry.

Already tried this, didn't work.

Thanks for all the responses guys, but it seems to be hopeless. I think I'm going to be getting ARMA 2 CO during the Steam Summer Sale so maybe I'll see you guys in PR2 or ACRE.
