"black&white" screen is completely black

Post by YAK-R »

Hey guys,

The near death screen, being "black and white" as it's more often called is completely black, there's sometimes a big white dot on the screen, but that's it.

I have worked out that turning off anti-aliasing fixes this, but i'd really prefer to play with it on , the game looks 2x nicer, and it's much easier to spot enemies further away!

My specs are as follows,

Code: Select all

Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.80GHz
4.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D-E PRO
2x AMD Radeon HD 6850 run in crossfire
59GB OCZ-VERTEX2 ATA SSD
1954GB Western Digital WDC black
Any suggestions? My drivers are up to date!

Try deleting shaders cache that might fix it.

Go to My Documents > Battlefield 2 > mods > bf2 > cache and delete anything below that point. Make sure your game is not running when doing this.

Run PR and it will optimize shaders again on next connection to MP game.

Pretty certain this is not a shaders issue., as YAK-R discovered, it is a anti-aliasing issue with the Radeon cards in crossfire.

anti-aliasing + Radeon cards in crossfire = Black and white screen being all black.

Two things to try:
1. IN Catalyst CC, go to Gaming tab on left, then select 3D Application Settings. Create a Profile for PR.exe , in this profile, set the Anti-Aliasing Mode to "Performance" in the slider settings. Save the profile. Running your cards in Crossfire, Test PR. If joy, cool, if no joy, shutdown PR, switch to single card mode, and test PR again.

2. You could try running PR only using one GPU with anti-aliasing set to ON. A single HD 6850 will run max settings smoothly up to 1080p.

Happens with nVidia as well. That screen should not be b&w its actually reddish ( blood screen ), but is for some reason b&w for me ( nVidia gpu ).

I knew there is a problem with Ati cards too but I didn't knew its completely black, that's why I thought its shader problem.

Thanks for the replies.

I cleared my shaders, that didn't do a whole lot.

I had already set my card to the simple anti-aliasing, but turning off the 2nd card, IE, disabling the crossfire worked.

It's a shame, and it will be interesting to see if it makes any difference on some of the more graphic intensive maps like black gold.

If anyone comes up with a solution or has any ideas, let me know!

Have you tried creating a forced PR.exe CCC anti-aliasing profile, and then disabling the in-game AA?

I believe that's how the transparent terrain was fixed; it may work for this issue too.

1. IN Catalyst CC, go to Gaming tab on left, then select 3D Application Settings.
You'll See << New Application >> in a Drop Down Box, and the Save button next to it.
It's a weird system here, you first select all your settings, Make sure to scroll down to the bottom where the anti-aliasing settings are located. then click Save on top. IN the "Save as screen, you have to find your mod\pr\pr.exe file in your battlefield 2 installation. Double click on PR.exe to save the 3d application preset.

Test PR in CF. If joy, cool, if no joy, shutdown PR, switch to single card mode, and test PR again.
