Current Health of Project Reality

Post by AurianTitan »

In your opinion, what do you think is the current health of PR now? And what do I mean by health? The gameplay particularly the cohesive and efficiency in bonding of players and squadleaders and tactics--not the population base.

With the decommissioning of TacticalGamer due to lack of activity, many of the players that sought haven there for good serious and tactical gameplay through the Battlefield 2 engine and not ArmA2 tried their best in filling that void on other servers. The newly made Serious Pants server also represents this as it suffers the same fate of TG, having a huge difficulty in seeding.

I played on TacticalGamer (prior to that was TexasTeamPlayers and Tactics&Teamwork, both archaic PR servers) for much of my PR history (since v0.5). And now that its gone, I have gotten the chance to reexplore the world of PR outside of TG and found it a bit bleak and a big facepalm to the face. I'm not sure of what are people's definition of "tactical and realistic FPS" or what they saw when they joined PR and filled up these many servers with their vague perspective and often immaturity.

I had never seen griefing, people killing over kits, unprofessional taunting, highly preventable unintentional teamkilling, poor coordination as a whole (the squads and team), bad squadleaders, and etc on such a large scale (for PR standards) when my one and only purpose of me joining Project Reality in the first place was that I was seeking for a place for serious and realistic gameplay aside from all the noise of the mainstream gaming industry where players convert into mindless drones running around with firearms on their hips. I always dreamed of a realistic shooter and I found PR to be a good game to represent this dream.

There are a few servers that are a bit more successful than TG and try to fufill this serious and realistic gameplay but in my opinion, they still need some fine-tuning. There has also been a huge influx of new people. Everyday, I get comments on my YouTube videos of people wanting to know what game it is and they're really all the old videos from TG that I had. And now that it no longer exists, I don't know what is in store for them when they join other servers and quite possibly enjoy PR the wrong way. What is learned will be learned again by the individuals of assimilation as a predisposition, not by what they want to learn or had anticipated.

Anyway, this is just my opinion and I would like to know if others feel the same as I do. I don't know if there is an answer for this, probably not. But as of now, I see a downward future for PR in its realism and all-seriousness. It continues to be a nice game of bonding between good PR buddies but the experience is dramatically lesser as we try to struggle through firefights and battles together. It just becomes all unrealistically frustrating.

Yes TG was certainly more professional than the other servers, witch is what ostracized others. For the players on the server, this was good. I just dont think that there is enough people playing this game to return to that level, without organized events, I guess, now.

If the smurfs, or secondaries, or whatever play this game the way they do, I can't really stop them. If the playerbase is faltering, there isnt really any answer. Do we expect PR to be around in 30 years? Probably not. Eventually, we will move onto other things. For some this happened earlier than others.

However, new releases do have a habit of reviving playerbases.

Project Reality lacks players, regular players. Back in the days I could join the same server every night seeing the same teamwork-orientated players having a great great time, unfortunately I don't see that anymore. Sure, there are servers where people play regularly, but it's not the same gameplay. The players have changed throughout the history of PR and it seems like a new generation of less teamwork-orientated players has arrived. I'm sure they're having a great time, and they love the game, but for us who have played the game for a very long time it's no longer the same.

TacticalGamer is gone and we (the lazy sons of ******* not caring to seed) have only ourselves to blame. This is a fact that we need to accept and start thinking how to bring the good old PR feeling back - hence the new 'Serious Pants' server.

Couldn't agree more.

A new release does bring more players in, but only for a short while. PR:V gave us a small boost of players but they're gone again, and unless the new patch brings us something magical I don't think it will be any different.

Basically this. I discovered not long before I quit that paintball PR is extremely boring (I had an epiphany after soloing around Kokan with only a SPG techie and marksman rifle, destroying two LAVs and getting a 20:1 K/D ratio, and having zero fun in the process).

Honestly i feel that most of the good tactical players left because they overplayed PR and it seemed to get stale to them. And when they come back they cant find any good servers with good players. I play PR regularly still but i feel that more of the old time PR players are waiting for a new patch to refresh PR.

This project cannot die, it isn't even an infant yet: merely a fetus in its second trimester.

When this project gets rolling (past testing admins and server quality control), you will once more have a place generate quality content for your your YT channel, as there will be a place for players just like you to get their PR on.

I know you guys don't see very much happening, but a server like the one I am try to make has never been done quite like I propose it. It will just take a little more time.

It's kind of a vicious circle with veteran players who perceive the community to be full of lackluster players not playing. So, the new players feed off each other(or bring skills from mainstream games) since there is nobody to show them the correct way.

Don't be so pessimistic about the community, we all loved the way it used to be, but sulking about it won't bring it back. Join the "worst" server you can find and lead a squad, or just play your *** off, show these guys how the game is meant to be played.

New Release should revive it quite a bit, yet I dont find PR dead at all, theres been many threads like this one for past few weeks, but I still disagree, there are other servers than TG, even though I know TG was a really good Team Playing community and they ran a really good server too. But again there was BF3, then Diablo III and its just a matter of time before those people will return to PR for yet another new release, im sure you will see the good old PR community, hell you might even see TG booting up again, you never know whats gonna happen with the future :-P

I my self, I've been on PR for quite some years now, and I do still play daily. Not as much as in the old days, but thats mainly the lack of new stuff in PR etc.. Playing the same layer of Muttrah over again, with the same assets / kits etc.. Sorta... Gets old at some point, dont know how the HOG guys can keep up with it round over and over again :-D

PR will be revived once BF3 / Diablo 3 sorta cools off a bit.

Once a PR player, always a PR player :D

You want to make sure that PR doesn't "die"? (You meaning YOU, avid PR gamer behind that monitor).

I know one simple solution: Stop bitching on the forums and start playing!

I dont think PR is dying. I have so many good games everytime i play. And the events and organized games i play in give me alot of satisfaction.

PR is in good health.

TG wasn't irreplaceable. There are still great servers out there and great players playing them. I don't players have become less teamwork-oriented. PR mumble has made that easier and people are making use of it.

We shouldn't wonder why less people play nowadays. It's a BF2 mod, and many if not most of us have played BF2 a lot. Of course the release of BF3 affected the player base. Many of us own ArmA2 as well, and the release of DayZ attracted those players.

If PR proves to be an unique experience for the old players, these people will come back. And I believe they will.

Not another one of these threads. Best thing ya'll can do is helping to seed the good servers.

Use that thread for the serious pants server and how to seed it. It might help.
