Hi, i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to increase my fps. I normally got around 12 - 38 FPS. Above 20 FPS is playable for me but when it drops around 15/16 or lower on maps like fallujah its really not fun anymore.
This link shows my ingame settings, its all on medium except for texture filtering.

my computer specs are posted here
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
2048MB RAM
2,2GHZ
ATI Radeon HD 4550
Win XP 32bit
I downloaded Game Booster 3.5 in the hope it would help. While it is saying my performance after the boost has been increased by 40% i dont really notice any difference.
Thanks in advance.
Any help on increasing my FPS?

Re: Any help on increasing my FPS?
have you updated all your drivers make sure everything is updated
also your hardware is a bit underpowered
I bet if you increase RAM to 4GB you would really see the diffrence
2GB is not enough especially for PR
RAM is fairly cheap these days so go out and buy some RAM
maybe think of upgrading your comp soon
your CPU needs an upgrade and you graphics are a bit outdated

Hmmmm... to me the CPU and graphics seem still better than my old system (which I could play on higher settings, dual core E6300 (1.86 GHz), 9600GT 512 MB...)

Re: Any help on increasing my FPS?
Thanks for your replies.
I am not planning on spending money on my pc anymore since i will replace it for a laptop soon anyway.
I have no idea if my drivers are up to date, probably not. How can i find this out and wich would i need to update?
Also im wondering if some changes in settings would help me. If i could get a overall +10fps while playing i would be perfectly happy.

Don't expect to get very good* gaming performance out of your new laptop either... unless you're planning on spending >= $2000 USD on itheldro wrote:I am not planning on spending money on my pc anymore since i will replace it for a laptop soon anyway.
*Peoples' definitions of "good" differ. Mine is playing games on an average of high settings with >30 fps at all times, preferably 60fps.

I know, im not getting a laptop with the intention to play games on it.
Im gonna keep this pc at my parents home so i can play games in the time i spent there, but im not sure how much i will use it so thats why i dont feel like spending any money on it (yet).

Actually your old PC was quite stronger than his. C2D even on 1,86 Ghz is more powerful than AMD X2 4200+ and 9600GT is way more powerful than HD4550.Daniel wrote:Hmmmm... to me the CPU and graphics seem still better than my old system (which I could play on higher settings, dual core E6300 (1.86 GHz), 9600GT 512 MB...)
Video Card Comparison - GPUReview.com
If you upgrade your GPU and you can find used 8800 GTX or 9600GT and add more 2GB of RAM you can do something with it, but this way nothing you can do. GPU and RAM are your main bottleneck there. 64bit OS 4GB ram, 8800/9600 w/512Mb and you can run on high. HD 4550 if very low end gpu, and is ok for HTPC but not for gaming.
PS: And I dont even recommend any laptop for gaming even if you pay it 2000 $. I see laptops as necessary evil and waste of money unless you have very good reason to get one ( and that excludes gaming reasons ).

Re: Any help on increasing my FPS?
You have found what is probably close to the optimal solution for your video settings, I can suggest turning off Shadows completely for an immediate FPS boost.
FYI, the HD 4550 is not as good a card as the 9600 GT as mentioned above, the HD 4550 was designed to be a HTPC or Business workstation video card.

I appreciate not wanting to put good money into the old PC, so I can't offer you much to increase your FPS right now. If you do fall for temptation, of the current NEW cards you can buy in the shops, the AMD Radeon HD 6570 GDDR3 of the Geforce GT430 1024MB DDR3 is the cheapest you want to go. Or go find a USED card online or locally.
