[Solved] Help me with my FPS

Hey guys,

I try to figure out how to increase my fps. I do not want to spent money for new hardware right now. I guess I should get better fps with my current pc, maybe I am wrong. On some maps my fps drop below 20

Win7 64Bit
Intel Core 2 Duo 7400 @ 2.8 GHz
Nvidia Geforce 9800 GTX+ 512MB (Driver Version 301.42)
Corsair 6 GB DDR2-800
MS Neo3 P45 Mainboard
2x Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache
Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 1680x1050

Pr is on a different HDD than Win7. I over-clocked my processor to 3.1 GHz, but performance didn't change a lot. Right now I am back to 2.8 GHz.

and reduced my setting from overall high to:

Terrain: med
Effects: med
Geometry: high
Textures: med
Lighting: med
Dynamic shadows: low
Dynamic light: low
AA: 2x
Texture filtering: med

My fps did increase, but I still have huge fps drops (below 20) on some maps.

Anyone got some advice for me?

Your Graphics card lacks memory pretty sure, sry for that. (512 MB is too less, I had 9600 GT also 512MB, also lags on huge maps, now GTX 570 1280 MB, perfect.)

Thx for the reply, size of the map seems irrelevant. Even have this drops on skirmish maps. I tried gamebooster, but didnt help.

try using gamebooster to increase performance a little bit

You need to decrease the anti aliasing and view distance also the texture, if its not solved check your VGA temp and Cpu

All drivers are up to date, just made a fresh install a few weeks ago. Tried Gamebooster, didnt help.

I keep track of my temps, they are fine. I guess reducing AA and view distance would give me more fps, but this is kind of last resort, isnt it? Is my hardware just to old? And if yes, is it the 512 MB graphic ram?

AA and field distance are both quite the performance hogs

I suggest you lower both a little and see the result

I tested different setting of AA and Texture filtering. Difference between AA 4x and Texture filtering mid and AA 0x and Texture filtering low plus gamebooster on is around 5 fps... not much but at least....
Have not tested the View distance setting, but I guess I live with the fps drops before I lower that.

Maybe one of ur RAM broken or/and the harddrive veeery slow, maybe caused by backgroundprogram(s) running... -.-

Could you check something -

Set everything to lowest (resolution can stay at your regular one), AA off etc.

Clear & rebuild your shaders.

Check if the big FPS drops still occur.

Did some testing, seems like my memory was broken. Can play with all settings high and AA4x without dropping fps now.
