The Normandy Campaign
I've always thought of Project Normandy as a big "campaign". I thought Operation Overlord in version 1 was a campaign already: beach landings, then proceed inland and eventually fight over the occupied village.
Now that more maps are coming to Project Normandy, this whole idea of a campaign gets even better. Maps are somewhat connected to each other if you look closely. They can be played in a certain order. Obviously this order isn't historically accurate and all battles are fought by Americans vs Germans, but I still like the idea.
I've put "The Normandy Campaign" in Google Maps, where you can easily add positions, draw lines, etc. Visit it here:
This overview gives you information about the maps and the order of the maps. Note that maps like "La Varde" aren't finished (at all) and may not make it to the mod eventually.
I plan to put more information into the overview as the project progresses.

The description of Bloody Gulch is wrong, afaik it was the 101st Airborne defending against 6th Fallschirmj?ger Regiment and 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division "G?tz von Berlichingen", with the 2nd Armoured entering the fray later.

You're right. I've edited the text, should be more accurate now.
I think other texts can be adjusted as well. Feel free to comment on those too. All feedback is appreciated.

That is awesome, the story behind the maps and them being linked together makes it much more immersive.

I've updated the descriptions again. Should be much more historically accurate now. If you spot mistakes or errors, feel free to comment, to make them better.
I've also moved the "Operation Overlord - Airborne Assault" pin to its correct location. Though the map is in a fictional part of Normandy, the historical event took place near St. Mere Eglise (amongst other locations).

the image of the brecourt manor map is kind of misplaced, it should be more to the east on the correct map marker[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote:I've updated the descriptions again. Should be much more historically accurate now. If you spot mistakes or errors, feel free to comment, to make them better.

i was just saying that teh image icon right now is near the operation overlord marker, when it would make more sense be near teh brecourt assault map marker,[R-DEV]AfterDune wrote:Sure, where do you want it? (perhaps link to a Google Maps location)

Re: The Normandy Campaign
Hm, but one of the drop off point sfor the Airborne assault wasn't that far from the Brecourt Manor, right? I don't mind moving either marker though.
Since Normandy only includes the US Army, the campaign will only display them. I guess one could recreate all events and put them in a Google Maps thing, but then it wouldn't be about Project Normandy anymore
.
I'm more than happy to include a British battle, if I could get my hands on British-ish playermodels and the weapons they use.

Use BiA games for some reference, those guys did it pretty good. Ofc the idea of a campaign is brilliant.

I think this is a great way of thinking about the Project Normandy. I would of never thought about it this way. Great job!

Re: The Normandy Campaign
I think that PN could change to PR:WW2 as suggested in the airplanes thread, make Op. Market Garden, Varsity, Stalingrad Battle, Pacific War, would be awesome, also more maps with aircraft.

I like this concept of Campaign. Would be nice to make an event through that perspective.

Re: The Normandy Campaign
we could also make some kind of montage that appeares in the loading screen, nothing too complicated just something to contextualize the map or operation in play and give a briefing on the history?

Re: The Normandy Campaign
^ Like Old School Call of Duty, where the loading shows a briefing of the Mission, would be nice, something like having only 1 image which is the briefing.
